Earlier that morning, someone had mentioned it was June 21st, the longest day of the year. At the time they couldn’t have possibly understood the irony in that statement. Dr. Bishop Avery looked up at the clock on the wall and noted it was 3PM, but he knew it was much later than that. Much, much later. It had indeed been the longest day. He had much to do. But first, he took out his phone and uploaded some data to the Internet. Then, he found a box, labeled a package and addressed to Dr. Mary Puglisi at the Dolphin Research Center in the Florida Keys. He thought to himself, “You’re going to love this, old friend.” Then he dropped his phone and a few other items into the box, added some packing, and dropped the package into the mail chute. Down it went.
