Laughter of Heart (Spanish/español dub) - Currently looking for a translator

Your job as the translator is to take the dialogue from the Laughter of Heart short film and localise and adapt it for Spanish-speaking audiences to enjoy.

Here are a couple of bios of several of the characters that appear in the film, as well as an English transcript for you to work with for the translated dubbing script:

(Tanoshi)

Age – 19

Gender – Male

Class status – Low Class

Trivia – He is a well-beloved acrobatic Street performer who moved to WorkinDale to make some money from his performative stich.

Tanoshi is a kind-hearted chap who loves to entertain the local folks with his acrobatic stunts. His passion for this type of work is what allows him to make some cash on the streets daily.

Recently, he moved to the magnificent kingdom of Workindale to start a fresh new life, and with the large number of people, he will be able to make many friends. Later, he gets word of an open try-out audition for a new royal jester that was hosted by the ruler of Workindale, “King Hartforaleg.”

Throughout the multiple-day audition, he begins to have romantic feelings for the king’s lovely daughter, “Princess MuffyButtons.” The king, on the other hand, although rather impressed by his skills, is very sceptical of his falling in love with his daughter since he is not a rich prince and is just a simple, low-class performer.

After being banished from the kingdom by the king for comedically breaking his golden valuables, an Imp sets Tanoshi on a quest to steal a group of robbers’ gold and give it to the king to regain redemption and chances of becoming Workindale’s royal jester.

(Princess MuffyButtons)

Trivia – She is very helpful and kind towards others as well as having a love for bizarre humour.

Princess MuffyButtons is a lovely young woman who is the royal princess of WorkinDale and is also King Hartforaleg’s daughter.

She is as kind as an angel who is respectful and helpful towards others in the kingdom, including her father and the castle staff. Despite being proud of her Royal position and partial ruler of the whole kingdom of WorkinDale, she also wished for something more riveting and exciting to happen outside of her royal duties.

When Tanoshi came into the castle to participate in the try-out audition, he was everything she ever wanted with a man. Someone who may not have a thing for words and is no prince charming, has a kind heart for others and puts the smiles on people’s faces with his favourite activities.

Over time, the two began to have romantic feelings for each other during the try-out audition. Her father was quite sceptical with her daughter falling in love with a low-class performer and not a handsome, rich prince.

When Tanoshi gets banished from WorkinDale, she is very upset that her lover will be gone forever. Despite this tragic moment, she refused to give up hope and sneaked out of the kingdom to look for Tanoshi while also disguising herself as a peasant.

The two of them eventually reunite with each other, and she even helps out Tanoshi with his quest to get the gold from the robbers hiding in the cave.

(King Hartforaleg)

Age – 64

Gender – Old male

Class Status – Royal high class

Trivia – He is the ruler of the entirety of the WorkinDale kingdom and has a daughter named Princess MuffyButtons.

King Hartforaleg is the wise old midget who is the ruler of the kingdom of WorkinDale.

A long time ago, he unfortunately got his left leg amputated, which had to be replaced with a heart-shaped peg leg that later gave him the name “KingHartforaleg.”

He hosts an open try-out audition to look for someone capable of being the kingdom’s new royal jester.

He also has a young daughter named “Princess MuffyButtons”

When Tanoshi entered the try-out and showed off his humorous stunts, he was mildly impressed, while his daughter loved it so much. 

Over time, he gets very sceptical about her daughter falling in with someone who is not rich and is not a rich prince who can protect a kingdom with forceful strength.

The try-out audition lasted for a couple of days, and all was going well until Tanoshi pulled a stunt too far.

The young performer took some of the king’s golden valuables and proceeded to juggle and even toss them like frisbees, which resulted in each one shattering into piles of golden shards.

This leaves King Hartforaleg extremely furious that Tanoshi would pull a cruel stunt like this. As a result, the king banishes the young performer from the kingdom, as well as having a harsh argument with her daughter regarding her and Tanoshi’s relationship.

Narrator:

They say a hero comes and goes in many ways.

Whether it's a charming prince saving a damsel maiden from a monstrous beast, a wise magical wizard conjuring up smoke and mirror spells for eternal power, or even a king sending his men to war to battle a rival nation.

But for every hero, there are ones who wish not to participate in threatening roles.

Some wish simply to do what they do best, which is to bring happiness to others with their kind-hearted talent.

(1:57 – 2:06)

Narrator:

Our story takes place in a land far, far away, in a magnificent kingdom of Workindale.

And this brightly purple one is our hero of this story. And his name is Tanoshi.

(2:11 – 2:21)

Narrator:

This young chap has made a living as a street performer, always pulling fantastic performances that always brought smiles to a crowd's faces every time.

(2:29 – 2:41)

Narrator:

Tanoshi was ecstatic about what he had just observed in that flyer and had big dreams of becoming a jester in Workindale's magnificent castle, well… If he doesn’t break the rules of course.

(2:48 – 2:57)

Narrator:

Tanoshi, with the full confidence he has, heads onward toward the castle of WorkinDale to show the royals what he is capable of.

(3:04 – 3:17)

Princess MuffyButtons:

(Talking with a screen royal gardener via complimenting his skill and how she hopes that he will get paid very well by the king.)

I have to say you did such a splendid job with the garden today. I'm sure the king would be pleased and perhaps even add an additional bloom to your raise this week.

(An off-screen WorkinDale castle royal guard comes up to the princess to ask her to visit her father, as he has important news for her.)

WorkinDale Royal Guard:

Your majesty, your father, i.e. the king, wants you at his throne room this instant at a pronto's pace.

Princess MuffyButtons:

Oh, really? If it is something urgent regarding the status of Alpind, then I must be off to see him now.

(Princess MuffyButton’s walks back inside the castle as we transition to the narrator introducing the ruler of WorkinDale, “King Hartforaleg.”)

Narrator:

In this castle, lives a wise old man, who ruled the entirety of Workindale. King Hartforaleg is his name, and he is called that due to the loss of his left leg, which had to be replaced with a heart-shaped peg leg.

(Princess MuffyButtons enters his dad’s throne room)

Princess MuffyButtons:

Dad, you wanted to see me at your throne room. Is that correct?

(King Hartforaleg is delighted of her daughter’s quick arrival)

King Hartforaleg:

Aha! Muffy Buttons. My dear daughter, I'm amazed you came here at such short notice. Oh, uh, Chop Chop, there's something I want to talk to you about.

(Princess MuffyButtons gets curious as her dad shows her an orange flyer that shows that his father is in the process of hosting a try-out audition as a way to look for someone to be the kingdom’s new royal jester.)

(4:03 – 4:08)

Princess MuffyButtons:

And what would that be, Dad? You-You're looking to fetch a new jester?

(Tanoshi enters the throne room, looking forward to participating in the king’s audition.)

WorkinDale royal guard:

Sir! Tanoshi, this fine young lad here, is looking to volunteer in your try-outs

King Hartforaleg:

Tanoshi, what an oddly gobbledy gook kind of name. Tell me, could someone like you produce enough magma projectiles to burn a neighbouring nation?

(Princess MuffyButtons interrupts her father from his selfish ramblings)

Princess MuffyButtons:

Ugh, Dad! Be easy with him. Didn't you say you're looking for someone to make us laugh with pleasure?

(4:34 – 4:46)

King Hartforaleg:

I suppose, you do have a fair point. If you wish to become one with the family, you must show me your talent first. So, show me what you've got.

(4:58 – 5:07)

King Hartforaleg:

(Sarcastic chuckle) Congratulations, now I'll have to hire a witch doctor to fix my daughter's brain because of your absurdity.

(4:58 – 5:15)

Princess MuffyButtons:

(Cute chuckle after seeing tanoshi’s ball act) No, no, Dad, I'm fine. He's got quite the talent. Don't you agree?

(5:16 – 5:38)

King Hartforaleg:

Well, Tanoshi, you may be an odd fellow. But uh, even I must admit that you certainly brought laughter to this fine home of ours. And because of this, I offer you an additional day of hospitality as well as an opportunity for you to present your talents even further than before. 

(Princess MuffyButtons walks up to Tanoshi)

(5:39 – 5:54)

Princess MuffyButtons (Flirty tone)

If you want, I can show you the way of our pleasant garden outside the castle. And later, maybe you and I can grab a drink from the tavern. Just the two of us. How does that sound, Tanoshi?

(Montage sequence of Tanoshi and Princess MuffyButtons falling in love)

(6:51 – 7:00)

Narrator:

Everything was going great for the young performer. That is… until the next day where he performed that went too far.

(Tanoshi greets the king at his throne room as he does another performance for him, this time, Tanoshi was juggling the king’s golden plates that the young performer took from the kitchen.)

(7:08 – 7:20)

King Hartforaleg: (Concerned and later angry)

No, no, wait, wait, wait, wait.

(King Hartforaleg kicks Tanoshi out of the castle)

And don't step your funny looking feet on these castle grounds until you fetch me some more gold.

(7:21 - 7:23)

Princess MuffyButtons: (Very upset)

Is this the way you treat the castle staff? Like this, too?

(7:25 – 7:33)

King Hartforaleg:

Well, he was being a nuisance in my eyes. I don't see why you have a heart for him. He lacks money, muscle, or even-

(Princess MuffyButtons harshly interrupts her father.)

(7:33 – 7:37)

Princess MuffyButtons:

And I love him for that, okay father!

(We then transition to Tanoshi sadly playing a flute on top of a small hill, until suddenly, a voice whispered to him down below.)

(7:42 – 7:57)

MuffyButtons (Peasant Disugise speaking in an American southern accent):

Pssst, you! Over here kid! I heard you’re looking for some shiny old gold, because if you follow me, I can show you good place to find some of it, deal?

(Tanoshi agrees as the two head over towards a dingy cave where some thief’s stole some goodies and using the caving as a hiding spot.)

(Note for the translators: Princess MuffyButtons wearing a peasant disguise is meant to be build up a twist on who truly helped out Tanoshi with finding the gold, including having the princess speak in an American southern accent.)

(7:59 – 8:13)

MuffyButtons (Peasant Disugise):

See this cave kid? I spotted some crooks hiding in this dimly lit shelter, carrying sacks of valuable goodies, some of which being filled with things you’re looking to snatch from, eh kid?

(Tanoshi bravely enters the cave and spots a sack full of gold, which he manages to snatch out of the cave without getting caught by the crooks.)

(8:23 – 8:26)

MuffyButtons (Peasant disguise, now speaking in her normal accent and voice)

That was impressively brave of you Tanoshi.

(This is the moment where the twist occurs and reveals that the peasant wearing the hood who had been helping Tanoshing with achieving the gold for the king was Princess MuffyButtons all along.)

(Tanoshi greets the king back at the castle and shows him a sack full of gold that will be used to make new golden plates.)

(8:34 - 8:41)

King Hartforaleg:

You! What are you? Wait, wait, wait. You got me some gold for the replacement of my plates.

(8:42 – 8:54)

Princess MuffyButtons:

Yes, indeed, Dad. He went out of his way to risk his life to fetch some gold for you. Also, I sincerely apologize for my temper earlier.

(8:55 – 9:18)

King Hartforaleg:

Of course, I forgive you, my dear child. And I also like to apologize for my scepticism towards our fine young fellow Tanoshi, who with his excessively absurd sense of humour along with him risking his life to fetch me some new gold, I declare Tanoshi as our new workinDale royal jester!

(The short film ends with Tanoshi doing his ball act the second time, with the balls landing on his end and onto the ground in a comedic manner.)

(Here are some notes for the translator):

The characters' names will be localised to have more Spanish-sounding names for the dub:

Tanoshi will be called "Tanoki"

Princess MuffyButtons will be renamed as "Princesa Mufita"

(I will let you decide how you want to localise King Harforaleg's name as well as the name of the kingdom of "WorkinDale")

The scene (3:04 - 3:14) where Princess MuffyButtons is talking and complimenting an off-screen royal gardener will be rewritten as the Princess talking to herself about how today is such a nice day, while at the same time wishing something interesting would occur today as well.

The scene (4:15 - 4:28) is where King Hartforaleg playfully saiyng how Tanoshi's name is odd as well as asking the young performer if he has the capability of burning a neighbouring nation, only to get interrupted by her daughter who tells him to be easy with Tanoshi, as after all, the king is looking for someone to fill the role of being the castle's new royal jester.

In the Latin American Spanish dub, this scene will be partially rewritten to have the king playfully make fun of Tanoshi/Tanoki by calling him several odd names, including one that calls Tanoshi a clown-vomit freak.

The part with Princess MuffyButtons calling out her father to be easy with the young performer will now be rewritten as the Princess telling her father to stop calling Tanoshi names, as she thinks he's too cute to be a freak.

The scene (5:39 - 5:54) has Princess MuffyButtons asking Tanoshi (in a flirty tone) if he would see around several places in WorkinDale and get a drink from the tavern, which leads to a montage sequence of the young performer and princess falling in love.

The Spanish Dub of this specific moment will be partially rewritten to have the Princess flirtatiously asking Tanoshi if he would like to get a drink with her at the tavern, as well as the Princess asking the young performer if he would also like to come to her bedroom later tonight.

(7:43 - 8:13)

Princess MuffyButtons, wearing a peasant disguise as well as speaking an American Southern accent, will be localised in the Latin American dub as speaking with a Castilian Spanish accent and language.

Basically, as a translator, you have complete creative control over how you want to localise it for Latin American audiences, as long as the characters' personalities and story itself are faithful.

I am looking for a female actress for the role of the narrator who can do narration that gives off a vibe of a mother telling a fairytale story to their children.
