Project Overview
Introduction
It Hurts to be Pretty is about a high school girl named Tracey. Her life is as normal as any high school student. She is known for her beauty and attracts many others. One guy particularly is named Spirit. He has been in love with her since she enrolled in this school. Tracey is also in love with him. This may seem typical, but it isn't. She has a bully named Bonnie. She constantly teases her and makes fun of her just because of her beauty, she was jealous. Bonnie also liked Spirit, but he didn't like her back. Bonnie is determined to do whatever it takes to make Spirit love her. Tracey also has a 'secret admirer' (not so secret) that likes her as well. His name is Slush. Ever since he saw Tracey, he has been in love with her. It broke his heart when he found out that she loves Spirit. Now Slush is determined to make Tracey love him, whatever the cost.
Rules and Guidelines for Auditioning:
- This round of auditions will close May 14, 2022. We do not plan on extending this deadline.
- A discord account is mandatory to partake in the project.
- As per Discord's terms of service, you must be at least 13 years old to audition. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- You must follow us here on CCC. Otherwise we will not be able to contact you.
- You may audition for (and even be cast in) multiple roles.
- We are looking for clear and quality audio. No fans, chatter, or other background noise please!

Tracey Blue is a senior in high school, and goes by she/her. During the time of the story, she is seventeen. Tracey has big dreams in the near future, one of which is being a fashion designer alongside her best friend Kiki. She is guided by her mind, which makes her choices too often controlled by herself. She sometimes needs a set guide in order to set her along the right path. Due to Tracey’s life growing up, she dislikes it whenever she is dragged into the conversation or when anyone mentions her.
(Joking) Gentlemen, you two should be going to class! Do you two want study hall?
(Sad) I thought my life wouldn't get any worse, Kiki. And yet, it did. Why? I don't deserve any of this.
Spirit Brown is a senior in high school, and goes by he/him. In the beginning of the story, he is seventeen. Spirit always enjoyed the theater. He started off with going to see many famous shows on Broadway, and slowly leaned towards the acting industry for movies. Spirit follows his heart, making him a free-spirited dog. He always tries to stand by his friends, and support them in any way he can. Sometimes a bit too well.
(Amused) I’m so sorry about him. He’s been thinking about, ahem, other things. We shall be on our way, Madame Tracey.
(Worried) Tracey! What happened? Are you injured?
Slush James is a senior in high school, and goes by he/him. Slush is seventeen when the story begins. Slush had a fantastical idea of love. He believed that the first person you liked, will remain there forever, and even after death. So much so, that he would go through any means to be with that person. Due to this, Slush wears his heart on his sleeve. He follows that burning passion to wherever it takes him.
(Annoyed) Damn phone broke. My mom found my report card. She wasn’t happy, and she sold it.
(Angry, sad) And why not? I thought you would always stand by me, Trace. Is that why you left me?
Bonnie Leeward is a senior in high school, and goes by she/her. She had just turned seventeen at the start of the series. In a desperation to impress her mother, she had a goal of becoming a famous model. Over the course of the series, she realizes that she doesn’t need fame to be happy. In her childhood, she was the youngest out of four. She was inspired by her older sisters to continue the legacy of her family. She follows her own heart, and her feelings sometimes seep into how she views herself as a person.
(Bitter, mocking) Tracey this, and Tracey that. I don’t understand how people can talk about you. And you call yourself a future “fashion designer”. How can you be a designer if you can’t even keep up with the times?
(Excited and Concerned) Spirit! There you are! What happened? You were gone for some time.
A student who often competes with her excelling sister, and is being used.
(Mocking) Honestly. You should be ashamed of what you make. Are you blind? This necklace isn’t even! And that charm on the necklace. It’ll clash with the outfit, and it’s weighty. Do you really think people will buy your items if they aren’t perfect?
A student who focuses on her academics, but is being used by someone she calls a friend.
(Mocking) Here. We gave it back to you. I hope you enjoy the new and better version of it!
Kiki Johnson is a senior, and goes by the pronouns she/her. She is the youngest senior at the age of sixteen at the start of the story. As a young cat, she and Tracey had connected together. Kiki had an interest in running her own bakery, and she wanted to stand by her best friend together. Her fiery spirit is controlled by her heart. She is very optimistic however, her feelings can sometimes get herself into big trouble.
(Reassuring) Hey, don’t talk like that. Don’t let them discourage you, Trace. Be strong.
(Furious) You did what?! Who in the right mind would do that? You'll regret what you did to my best friend!
Slick Burns is a senior, who goes by he/him. He has already turned eighteen near the beginning of the story. He and Spirit always stood by each other despite uncomfortable circumstances. Slick has many creative talents, however, he’s always thought about what he’d do in his future. Despite his thick exterior, Slick is sensitive and can empathize well. People often think that he’s just another random guy with no chance in the world, however, he’s a lot more creative than people take him to be.
What? Don’t look at me like that. She agreed to it, man.
(Teasing) Yeah, yeah. Whatever, Ms. Popular.
Bro, you did hear what you just said? The lead role, and yet, you’re not making a big deal out of it!
A biology teacher who is strict, but cares about her students.
I hope that those essays will be done by the next class period. Class is dismissed for the day.
