Hana Yori Uta Season 5: Hana x Yukiho
Project Overview
Hana Yori Uta is a series of English-translated recorded playthroughs of The [redacted] 2 for the PS3, hosted on YouTube. Characters in the game with lines spoken in Japanese by the original voice actors receive English subtitles, while characters who do not have spoken lines in-game receive fan-dubbed English (or Japanese) voice overs. Unlike the first season, later seasons eschew the repetition involved in a full playthrough in favor of mainly showcasing the idols' stories, a few songs, and several Communications. Season 5 of the series uses Yukiho Hagiwara as the center idol. This casting call is for the various lines spoken by unvoiced NPCs in the Communication scenes. Since they typically show up for a small part of one scene and then disappear, their character designs are often not fleshed out at all, leaving voice type and delivery largely up to the interpretation and preference of each individual actor.
Although this is an audition site, I don't intend to make this process any more exclusive than it always has been on my show. Anyone is welcome to participate regardless of experience, and I'll accept just about any audition as long as you follow the rules. If I end up getting a very large number of auditions, I'll have no choice but to start picking favorites, but otherwise my goal is to spread the roles out over as many people that want one as possible.
Rules: be clear; be available; be invested.
- Be clear. Speak in a clear enough voice, using a decent enough microphone in a quiet enough environment, to be understandable. If you don't know how to filter background noise out of your audio files, leave a couple seconds' pause before or after speaking your lines and I will take care of it.
- Be available. If I cast you for a role, you will have no less than one week's notice within which I will need you to record the full part.
- Be invested. Don't just read; act! Imagine yourself as the character in the situation described and have fun playing them. That's ultimately what this is all about.
Guidelines:
- You may choose to audition for a role either in English or in Japanese; functionally it makes no difference. All roles come with one or two English test lines and one Japanese test line. Please upload one file per role delivering all present lines in your chosen language. Please choose one language or the other, but not both.
- The total number of lines listed for each role is equal to the number of dialogue boxes that NPC receives in the game.
- Because dialogue advances automatically in [redacted] 2, NPC lines will usually have strict time limits within which they must be spoken. Time limits will be provided along with the full lines upon casting. If you are having trouble staying within the time limit for a line, let me know and I will work with you to trim it down.
- Each role has an episode number denoting which episode it will appear in. Lower episode numbers need to be cast and completed earlier. Nominally, one episode will be posted every Sunday starting on May 1, 2016.
- Casting will begin on Sunday, April 24, 2016, one week before the first episode is scheduled to go live. Feel free to audition for any role or as many roles as you like until then. After that, roles will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
- While this project is not strictly one role per person, people who have not yet gotten a role that want one will be given priority over people who have already had one (applies to this season only, not past seasons). Roles whose only auditioners are people that have already been cast will remain open for new people to try out for until one week before its episode is scheduled to be posted. So if you do try out for multiple roles but have one that's your favorite, you may want to use the Add Comment button and mark it as such.

An eccentric American musician whose name appears to be a pun on Beyoncé. She meets with the girls while visiting Japan. She speaks in slow, carefully-enunciated English with a Japanese accent to make sure they can understand her. At the same time, she introduces herself in a delightfully playful singsong voice.

A customer who visits a convenience store where Yukiho is working temporarily. S/he wants to buy a boxed lunch and politely asks Yukiho if there's a way to have it heated up at the store. S/he is quite confused by her eventual response.

The director of a musical the girls are participating in. At the end of the last scene on opening night, s/he comes out onto the stage to praise and thank the cast. Addresses the theater audience in a grand, booming stage voice.

A radio personality. Hosts a show called "The Machine Gun Talk Show", which the girls are appearing on. As his show's name implies, he talks extremely fast and breathlessly, leaving barely any space between words and marking his sentences more with varying tones of voice than with actual punctuation. Capricious and temperamental, he is notorious for falling into a foul mood when the guests he speaks with prove unable to keep up with him. On the other hand, he treats those who can keep up very well.

Later, it turns out there was an error in the conference scheduling and a large group of attendees missed the girls' segment of the conference. S/he shows up at the girls' dressing room in a slight panic and apologetically asks them to hold one more Q&A session.
