Project Overview
As a hobby project, I'm looking to re-create an episode of the original GUNSMOKE western radio show from the 1950s, titled "The Guitar." The original script has been transcribed here.
Available roles are:
MATT DILLON, U. S. marshal (71 lines)
DOC, the doctor (11 lines)
CHESTER, Matt's deputy (33 lines)
WEED PENDLE, eccentric wanderer who plays the guitar (49 lines)

TYLER, cohort of Short (27 lines)

Casting updates!
Thank you to everyone, on CCC and other voice acting websites, who expressed interest and auditioned for my project! I'm pleased to announce that I've found my voice actor for Weed Pendle, Short, Tyler, and Sam. (Yes, it's all the same guy.) Matt Dillon, Chester, and Doc are still open for auditions, although we've got some great ones so far!
The tough-guy lawman of Dodge City, Kansas. Has a "low, authoritive, semi-gutteral" voice. Originally voiced by William Conrad in the radio show, and played by James Arness on television. Feel free to give the role your own spin.
I'm that man...Matt Dillon, United States Marshal. The first man they
look for, and the last they wanta meet. It's a chancy job, and it makes
a man watchful. And a little lonely...Take your rope off that man's neck, and you do it quick!
All right, turn around both of you. [A BEAT.] Now take their guns, Chester.
Matt Dillon's assistant. His voice is very country, likable, slightly high pitched." Originally voiced by Parley Baer in the radio drama, but if you can imitate Dennis Weaver's delivery from the television series, that is preferred.
Looka-yonder, Mister Dillon, across the plaza, there.
[SLIGHTLY TIPSY] You shore are slow with that beer, Doc. Here I am, ready for anotheur'n.
He is funny lookin', all right, and he acts pretty peculiar, too.
Dodge City's doctor. Likable, but cynical, full of character, according to Howard McNear's radio performance. Alternatively a bit gruff, if channeling TV actor Milburn Stone. Feel free to give the role your own spin.
Awww, yes, well you had enough to drink last night, Chester. Matt told me you were still asleep at nine o'clock this morning!
Well, which has the bigger ears...him?or his mule?
You go shootin' anybody, and you'll be the ones to end up on a rope!
Dull-witted, J. Nusser type semi-high, nasal voice.
[SHOCKED] Sell my gittar? No, I'd never do that!
[BASHFUL] I never done much. We had hard luck and never got to see no real
Confederates...just a bunch of ragged-tail bushwackers in South
Missouri. They was led by an old chicken thief name o' Cline.I sure do thank you for lettin' me sleep in your jail last night, Marshal.
Bartender with rough, medium-pitched voice
What'11 it be. Marshal?
That so? (pause) There he .is now. (louder) Pendle..come over here.
He means some o' the boys who were here, when he came back with his
busted guitar. Marshal. Just told him how sorry they was. That's all.
High, H. Bartell voice, southern accent, ignorant loud-mouth.
That's a scrawny mule, Pendle. I seen ya on him this mornin'.
[Condescending, fake concerned] Pendle, you must have a nickel, at least!
He's a Yankee, Marshal. Killed a lot of us in Missouri during the war. We was gonna scare him, and then run him off!
High, southern accent, ignorant loud-mouth, except lower pitched voice than Short.
Yea, Pendle, here...he's kinda scrawny, hisself. Short. Maybe some beer'll fatten him up a little.
Now, who'd dare steal money off a tiger like you, Pendle?
'Course, you're not gonna get to see all of the hangin', Pendle. [pause, wicked chuckle] Just the start of it.
