Good Morning Zakera Ward (Mass Effect Fan Podcast)

Project Overview

What is GMZW?
This is "Good Morning Zakera Ward!”, a Mass Effect in-universe fan podcast!

Every weekday morning, Suraya the human and
Jorik the turian dish out the news, trade quips, and annoy their volus
boss, Mr. Rak. Joining them is the asari love guru, Miss Asar Amore, and
Mr. Rak's spunky volus daughter, Gem. Together, they deliver daily
entertainment to all the denizens of the Citadel's Zakera Ward.

What parts of 'Mass Effect' Does it go through?
GMZW Seasons 1 & 2 (and soon to be 3) offer a glimpse at life in the Citadel,
and loosely follows the events of Mass Effect 1 through the eyes of
regular civilians.

Will the series go past 'Mass Effect 1'?
Yes. We are currently planning Season 4, while we write Season 3, which will take place during the events of 'Mass Effect 2'.

How long has GMZW been around?

This is an ongoing series that has two completed seasons. The first episode was released on August 13th, 2014. (iTunes link if you're interested)

What is the recording process like?
GMZW does things a bit differently from other projects. First, we have our writing team of four very dedicated 'Mass Effect' fans draft everything up. Then, we send out the scripts about a week in advance for you, the actor, to go over. Finally, we get as many of the voice cast as we can together on a discord server, and record everyone all at once, so we can react in next to real-time for the most authentic reactions possible. The voice actors will record using a file name template into their choice of free software (Reaper or Audacity, usually). They then send in the files over google drive to the main GMZW email account, where they will be processed and edited.

Is it necessary to have played Mass Effect?
Not at all! These being all original characters mean game related lore and such will be handled by the writing team and filtering will be done in post-production.

Do you have the project on YouTube?
Why yes we do! https://www.youtube.com/user/goodmorningzw

Do you have a website?
Currently our hub is over on tumblr, but to get there quickly you can use https://gmzw.info

What do I need to join this project?
1: Every one of our voice actors is using at least a Blue Snowball with a pop filter inside of an isolation foam chamber (very easy to DIY with sound foam and a cardboard box.
2: Please send in auditions recorded as cleanly as possible, as anything with background noises or relatively low quality will be rejected.
3: Discord and a gmail account are a must. All planning and recording sessions are conducted over discord. All recorded files are sent in through google drive.

Who Is Asar Amore?
Asar Amore is the host of the romantic advice segment on GMZW. Just think of a late-night radio love guru host who takes callers and gives out advice.

What will be expected of this role?
This is a character recast of Asar Amore. We are looking for someone who will be able to closely emulate the previous voice actor’s performance. It might help to listen to Asar Amore from previous episodes here:

An easy access point is S02E05 at timecode 03:25. https://youtu.be/u_jl3kXYI1k?t=3m25s

Alternatively, her opening line is at S02E01 timecode 00:23, but Asar Amore doesn’t really get going in this episode until timecode 01:38.  https://youtu.be/kJ5ZHsKH8_U

More about Asar Amore:
Asar Amore’s lived a full life filled with adventures, including a lengthy tenure in the military’s special ops. But now that she’s in the “retirement” phase of her life, she’s a bit… bored. This occasionally compels her to act out, and is also the reason she joined the radio show in the first place: it seemed like a window to new experiences.

Nevertheless, she’s still the most secretive, mature, and rational of her co-hosts, though she has recently learned to loosen up.

  • --Please only record the lines with 'AA' Or 'Asar Amore' as the character.  Please
note that this is a character recast, so we are looking to emulate the
original voice actor as closely as possible. In the description above
will be links to previous episodes for you to use as reference audio. If you would like these lines in script format, please navigate to this link: https://goo.gl/21BcPn--

    DIALOGUE INSERT 1

    ASAR AMORE (AA)
Good morning Zakera Ward, and welcome. I am Asar Amore. My cohosts, Suraya and Jorik, are reporting live and on-location from the Shin Akiba convention centre, where the Citadel’s own “CitaCon” is currently being held. Before we join them, a quick warning that traffic is dense in the upper wards due to a crash near the six-hundredthirty- three block; and of course, by Shin Akiba, because of today’s festivities. Walking or taking alternative routes is suggested.

    MR. RAK BUZZES IN.

    MR. RAK
No, no, that’s alright, we can just cut to Suraya and Jorik. (*kzzk*) There’s no need for all of that.

    AA
No, but I noticed it on my way to work, and I figured it would be beneficial to inform our dear listeners. Besides, a certain volus deemed it necessary that I be here and not at CitaCon, so I might as well play the part to its fullest extent.

  • DIALOGUE INSERT 2

    GEM
Well coincidentally, I think someone can help with that. (*kzzk*) Hey listeners! It’s time for everyone’s favorite ancient artifact of the old world to come on down. Cue that Amore music!

THE “ASAR AMORE” (AA) THEME PLAYS.

    AA
Thank you for that... lovely introduction, Gem. I always appreciate you.

    GEM
I know. (*kzzk*) I’m pretty fabular. So what are we talking about today, oh super wise elder one?

    AA
Well, novice romantics, today we’ve got a special treat: we’re going to talk about courtship and, just because I’m feeling particularly inspired, we’re going to open up our lines so you can call in and share your most romantic story. I look forward to hearing all about it. And it looks like we’ve already got someone on the line.

  • DIALOGUE INSERT 3

    MR. RAK
(*kzzk*) For one thing, the studio repairs weren’t cheap. I also have some investments with companies on Noveria. (*kzzk*) That new Spectre caused a lot of people to lose money last week.

    AA
Did Commander Shepard perhaps cause some financial difficulties for businesses that harbored and assisted Saren? Rogue. Spectre Saren?

    MR. RAK
Elanus Risk Control had nothing to do with Saren. (*kzzk*) Shepard killed dozens of ERCS guards in her search for “corruption” for no reason. All that came out of it was the removal of a highly profitable administrator, and thousands of credits in property damage. Thanks to her, my shares and holdings have dropped by at least five points. (*kzzk*)

    AA
So the fact that Administrator Anoleis was corrupt is irrelevant? He used ERCS as enforcers and embezzled from almost every company operating on Noveria during his tenure.

    MR. RAK
There is no published proof of such claims! (*kzzk*) This new “Spectre” has no respect for the way business is run.

    AA
I find it strange that you’re ignoring the public report from Internal Investigations- Shepard was clearly more than willing to procure evidence so that due process could be followed. There was some collateral property damage, certainly, but this outcome will serve better in the long run.

    MR. RAK
(*kzzk*) And the lab spaces that Shepard sunk into the ice? The research and staff lost by Binary Helix are not “better in the long run,” Asar.

    AA
True, but I’m sure the new Administrator will be encouraged tokeep things clean from now on. The Noveria Development Corporation is going to be much more invested in the Administrator’s doings, I’m sure.
