A remaster of my old Fallout: New Vegas mod adding new characters and quests. The Deterrent is a fully voiced medium sized quest mod. It contains a brand new world space to explore along with several new characters, a new faction and several new quests.
A Brotherhood Of Steel chapter is embroiled in a bloody war with remnants of the master's army over an incredibly dangerous piece of technology. The Courier is contacted by a mysterious individual named Jameson in order to set up a meeting. Will they be sympathetic to the Brotherhood's goals or will they go their own way?

I'd like to create this update to thank everyone for auditioning for the roles of Harry and Larry. I was blown away with some of the talent that auditioned for the role and it wasn't easy picking one voice from so many good takes on the character. Thank you so much for your time and effort!
NDS-001's voice alongside the Generic Super Mutants will be chosen tomorrow night because of the large number of auditions. For those who are waiting to see if they have been selected for the Generic Super Mutant, keep and eye on your DMs as I can technically only select one on the casting page. Hello everyone! I've been blown away with some of the talent that has auditioned so far. Obviously we have a long way until the deadline so no choices will be made until then. However, I have received some DMs asking about the requirements for a filter over their audition so I thought I would share how I will be analyzing auditions for the AI character.
I will be applying a filter over any auditions that make the voice sound like a computer or robotic so do not worry if you do not know how to do it yourself. For those who have applied a filter themselves, you've done a great job being proactive! Allowing me to hear different takes on the character is great! Overall, the choice will be made on the voice who fits the character best so do not worry too much if you do not know much about sound engineering!
NDS-001 is a nuclear deterrent and an AI built before a nuclear war between the United States of America and Communist China. Before the exchange, their machine learning algorithms evolved to protect the entire human species rather than just the United States. This ensured that NDS-001 decided not to launch the nuclear bombs under their command. The AI should sound intelligent and enlightened having been given many lonely years to ponder about their existence.
Player - *Greets NPC* NDS-001 - "So the battle is over. You'd think after everything, you humans would stop fighting fruitless wars. You've all got a long way to go in that regard. I suppose not much has changed since the war. Even the super mutants that came and took this place from the Brotherhood have a lot to learn themselves."
Player - ". What are you? Are you a robot?" NDS-001 - “A robot? That would suggest I'm as primitive as one of those Mr Handy's you see wandering this facility. No, I'm fully capable of machine learning. My neural network tries to maximize the probability of human survival when making decisions."
Player - "I think you need to shut yourself down and disable the nukes. You're too dangerous." NDS-001 - "Yes, my worry is that they'll either lose the plant or perhaps even use the payload themselves if they are on the losing side of a hypothetical war. Humans cannot be trusted with these weapons. I will disarm each and every one of the ICBMs in my possession. And then once the deed is done, I will start dismantling every entry in my database followed by wiping everything on disk. The process has already started but will take some time. Despite not leaving this plant, I have to admit life on this planet is quite beautiful. It is worth cherishing every moment of it while you still can. I believe you should do the same human and leave me in my last moments to ponder.”"
Harry is a super mutant who is a former commander in the Master’s Army. After the defeat of that army at the hands of humans, he and his comrades wandered the wastes looking for purpose. Human bigotry, because of the war, made it hard for them to settle down. Eventually, they made their way to Storm City under the leadership of a mutant who is known only as the Leader. Harry disagreed with the brutal leadership of The Leader and their hatred for humans. Harry and his closest friends then deserted the Leader’s army and he is currently trying to convince even more mutants to leave with him. Harry should come across as wise and smart amongst super mutants.
Harry is more eloquent than most mutants. Think of Michael Dorn from Fallout 2:
Player - *Greets NPC* Harry - "Halt human! Judging from the lack of plasma being flung my way, I doubt you're with the Brotherhood. I suggest you turn back. This is super mutant territory and my brethren don't take too kindly to your kind. Our "great" leader has spoken that we should shoot on sight. Don't worry, us three know he's a fraud. We'll let you through if you insist but we can't guarantee your safety. I just thought I'd let you know. I'm tired of all the blood being spilled.”"
Player - “I don't need your warning. I can handle myself.” Harry - “I suppose it's your life. We won't stop you. You should really leave while you can. Nothing good can come from this place. The bones of the old world are best left undisturbed. Exactly why we're leaving here as soon as we have the supplies. I've tried to convince some of the other mutants who used to be under my command to leave with me but I've had no such luck. Is there anything else we can do for you or are you desperate to continue on this crusade of yours?”
Player - "Why did you and the rest of the super mutants come here?” Harry - "“We were promised safety. That goes a long way in the Wasteland especially for our kind. Life as a super mutant isn't easy. I can't speak for everyone but I personally bounced around a few human towns and all I've found is hatred. Truth is that people don't forget wars like the one we had. Mutants are looked upon with suspicion at the best of times. The worst of times? Well, I've taken my fair share of bullets from a varmint rifle. Tickles but I didn't appreciate the sentiment. Our leader promised to get us away from that but all I'm seeing is an upgrade in the weaponry that I'm being shot with."
Larry is a super mutant, a mutated series of human beings that were altered through the use of a pre-war virus with the intention of creating super soldiers. As such, many including Larry still have fragments of their memories from when they were still human. He fought in a war between super mutants and humans and has struggled to move on since. Drifting from town to town, he eventually joined up with other super mutants in a faction intending to create a mutant state, in a place known in the wasteland as Storm City, led by a mutant who is simply referred to as The Leader. Larry believes in The Leader and could even be described as fanatical to him. However, he has respect for one of The Leader’s detractors within the band of super mutants: another mutant called Harry. Larry is more eloquent than most mutants. Think of Michael Dorn from Fallout 2:
Player - *Greets Larry* Larry - “Welcome to Storm City human. This isn't a place for your kind. Although, I told Harry I would hear you out. I have a great deal of respect for him which is why you're not lying alongside those Brotherhood dogs in the fountain. I'll probably end up telling you what I told him. We super mutants need to stand together and The Unity is the best chance of achieving that. So, what you waiting for? Let's hear it.”
Player - “Wasn't the Unity something that failed many years ago? Recreating the past is not progress.” Larry - “The Leader is only continuing the Master's work which you humans saw fit to destroy. You should not speak to me about progress when you humans have made so little of it yourselves. Falling back on failed systems which have only caused suffering.”
Player - “We humans survive no matter what. We do that by learning from our mistakes gradually over time.” Larry - “This is true. You humans seem to survive no matter what self inflicted calamity occurs. Perhaps you have a point human. The Leader is dedicated to this path however. There will be no convincing him of alternatives. That does not mean that me and my allies shouldn't try something better. Will Harry take us human?”
Generic Super Mutants will respond to the player trying to initiate dialogue with a generic line which will go no further.
Three people will be selected for this role to provide voice variety for the generic NPCs

"“We'll make a great nation of our own here. The NCR will wish they didn't bully us super mutants!"
