Envy the Dead: Extra Characters
Project Overview
Hello!
Envy the dead is an alternate history, non-narrated audio drama series set in the 1970s. It follows a group of people from Sweden trying to survive an indirect nuclear attack. Its goal is to portray what a relatively normal group of people’s reaction to such an event would be, realistically. This group of people believes that sweden will collapse into chaos and thus embark on a journey to escape to somewhere safer.
I am producing this series alongside @whi_24, we've been planning this series since June of 2023. So far, we have 11 episodes planned and 6 written. They are all about 30 minutes long. We plan to release the episodes in two phases. Episodes 1-6 are phase 1, episodes 7-11 are phase 2.
This Casting Call is for some one-off characters for episodes in phase 1.
Episode 1
We find out that a nuclear explosion is about to take place in 1970. We meet our main characters and their problems.
Episode 2
This takes place during the drive from the main characters village to Stockholm, following the big explosion. During which, Sara has Flashbacks to her Past.
Episode 3
After Magnus had some resurfaced trauma after a large, nearby explosion, our five main characters go to a nearby hospital in hopes of getting him some treatment. When they arrive, they find the hospital completely over-run with people needing treatement after an impact from an unexploded missile ocurred in Stockholm.
Episode 4
Our five main characters have to seek refuge in Magdalena's grandparent's house from acid rain coming over from Russia. They find no sign of her grandparents, instead they find a strange man stealing their stuff.
Episode 5
The group break into a military installaton and steal food. They start driving off.
Episode 6
We briefly meet The Radio People. The group decides to drive toward Denmark. They meet a Woman, Anna, who must go to Gothenburg. They take her with them. They are briefly captured by the cult. But escape. However, Phil dies by gunshot whilst they escape.
Only VA's 16 and over please.

Ulf (Male) is a former partner of Sara. He is present in multiple scenes of Episode 2 (all of which are flashbacks into the past), In most of them he is kind. However, in the last, which takes place a bit later, he is brash and rude. As far as we have planned he is planned only for Episode 2.
This is a Medium sized role.

Ulf: (kind) If you want to talk about it… We have the next 9 hours for it. My name's Ulf.
ULF: (kind) Sure, you should not have to sleep under a Bridge, that’s ridiculous.
ULF:ULF: (rude) I wouldn’t want to read more of that stupid Blomquist (this is a book) if you paid me to! I’m going to bed!
Sara's Mum, just like Ulf, is only present in Flashbacks. She is only in one scene. She treats Sara very poorly and is a yell-y Person.

MUM: (demanding) Sara, I need you to stay home to House Sit whilst we go to Spain this year.
MUM: (raising voice, annoyed) You shall do what I say.
MUM: (yelling) Sara, get back here now!
Mr. Wilson (Male) is an overworked doctor from England, thinks he is better than everyone and hates being called "Doctor" and prefers "Mr" because of some stupid titles given in English hospitals. He is only present in episode 3.
This is a medium to large role.

Mr. Wilson: (agitated) I hope you realise the last ten hours have been stressful for me too? We have had patient after patient coming in all either mentally ill or injured beyond anything I have ever seen in all my years of working here.
Mr. Wilson: (annoyed) I dropped by wing 8 to sort out some patients in ward 5. And not only did I find that patients were being given the wrong amount of medication, but also that spillage wasn’t cleaned up!
Mr. Wilson: (at the end of his rope) I just need the right voltage… I just need to administer it in the right way, I just-
Annika (Female) is a mother worried about her son who is being treated at the hospital. Has been waiting for 10 hours straight and has not been updated on how her son is doing. She is only present in episode 3.

Annika: (concerned) I have been waiting here for ten hours, Mr Wilson. Tell me if my son is alright!
Annika: (very upset) My son came in for a fractured wrist! A fractured wrist! And I waited around for ten hours with no updates no matter who I asked! And when I finally got the attention of someone, and they finally told me where my son was, I found everyone in that ward… Including him… (upset) DEAD!
Annika: (a bit drowsy) That woman she… Wanted me to stop talking… She… Thought I was crazy… Elias, he’s… They killed him… You have to believe me… They killed him…
Freja (Female) is a nurse working with Mr. Wilson. Blindly follows the orders of Mr. Wilson and sometimes queries some of the practices he is doing. She is only present in episode 3.

Freja: Looks pretty bad but not the worst we have seen… We could try that new treatment Mr Wilson suggests we try on Shell shocked patients? It’ll get him in and out quicker.
Freja: …Very good, Annika. Now, what I have here is a drip. It’ll just put something into your system to calm you down a bit, ok? After we have done that, we can ask you some questions and you can give us some proper answers, ok?
Freja: But it’s not helping. None of it! You have killed people, Jacob! You haven’t been paying any attention to your patients because you have spent all your time in here working on a treatment that will never work!
Very fed-up. Just wants to go home. Literally the most disorganised Receptionist imaginable. They have lost the will for anything. This character is present in only episode 3.

Receptionist: No one goes through those doors that aren’t a patient, doctor or nurse of this hospital. We don’t want you getting in the way. Now, go sit down on one of the comfy chairs over there and stop disturbing me! I have a lot to do! (to someone else) …So, sir, what was it you wanted?
Receptionist: (fed up) Oh… Shit…
Receptionist: (sigh) Fine. But be quick. I am giving you all five minutes. *Five minutes* I'll be counting.
Viggo is a pretty frightened man, stealing from abandoned houses to survive. Could basically lose any fight. He is only present in episode 4.

Viggo: Oh uh… Hi… I wasn’t going to steal or anything! …I promise!
Viggo: I am just trying to protect myself from the storm! Nothing suspicious or anything! Just waiting for a friend!
Viggo: (acid rain coming through roof while there is knocking at the door) We need to check the door! Someone is out there!
Soldier 1 is just... a typical military guy. Brash. He is present in episode 5 as a small role.

SOLDIER 1: This is Military Property!
SOLDIER 1: Yes sir, the Trucks have just left for the countryside.
SOLDIER 1: (through door) Hello? Who’s in there?!
Solider 2, just like soldier 1 is a typical military guy. Brash. He is a much smaller role though. Present in episode 5 and 7.

SOLDIER 2: (reading something off) Magnus Svensson. Served in World War 2 and was posted in various other places. Quite an enviable record, sir.
SOLDIER 2: I received word from the soldiers in Gothenburg. They were arrested by Police.
SOLDIER 2: I believe commissioner Hellström’s.
Anna (Female) is a former radio worker and meteoroligist. She quits her job as she does not like her boss, Mik. She joins our main characters in order to travel to her family. She is present in episode 6 and 7.
This is a medium sized role.

ANNA: I’m going to Gothenburg. At least I was before you wrecked my car.
Linda (Female) is part of a agricultural cult. She is calm and collected, though somewhat insane. She is present in episode 6 and we plan for her to reappear later in the show.

LINDA: Sleeping in your car on the side of the road! No one keeping watch! You’re lucky we found you before the scavengers got you!
LINDA: Yes. They steal supp- wait! Do you have any supplies?
Stefan (Male) is also part of the cult. He is a bit more hot headed but just as insane. He's only in episode 6 for now, but later in the series we'd like to bring him back.
This is a small to medium role for now.

STEFAN: (calmer) Alright. My Name is Stefan Lindström, this is my wife Linda. We have chosen you. You will do what we say. Understood?
STEFAN: You will work on our Farm. You will convert to our religion. You will assimilate. Is that understood?
Olof Palme (Male) is based off the real Olof Palme, the former prime minister of sweden. He has a calm and commanding voice. He is present in episodes 4, 5 and 6

Olof Palme: I think that is rather too late… Damn it… We issued a statement to tell everyone to stay inside!
Olof Palme: And do what? Run like a coward? I am no coward.
This character (Male) is based off of the real Torsten Nilsson, the former defense minister of sweden. He is a bit confrontational but collected. He appears in episodes 4, 5 and 6.
This is a recurring role.

This Character (Female) is a parliament working, based off of no one specifically. She is present in episodes 4 and 5

The Guard is, as the name implies a guard for a russian missile detection center. They are Present only in episode 1.

An American Agent who is infiltrating the russian missile detection center. He is a bit sloppy with his work. He is only present in episode 1.

A Russian Officer in charge of Recruit training and a master interrogator. He is only present in episode 1.
