Envy the dead - Casting missing roles
Project Overview
Hello!
Envy the dead is an alternate history, non-narrated audio drama series set in the 1970s. It follows a group of people from Sweden trying to survive an indirect nuclear attack. Its goal is to portray what a relatively normal group of people’s reaction to such an event would be, realistically. This group of people believes that sweden will collapse into chaos and thus embark on a journey to escape to somewhere safer.
I am producing this series alongside @whi_24, we've been planning this series since June of 2023. We have all episodes written. They are all about 30 minutes long. We plan to release the episodes in two phases. Episodes 1-6 are phase 1, episodes 7-11 are phase 2.
All roles, save for Anders, are one off side characters.
Episode 1
We find out that a nuclear explosion is about to take place in 1970. We meet our main characters and their problems.
Episode 2
This takes place during the drive from the main characters village to Stockholm, following the big explosion. During which, Sara has Flashbacks to her Past.
Episode 3
After Magnus had some resurfaced trauma after a large, nearby explosion, our five main characters go to a nearby hospital in hopes of getting him some treatment. When they arrive, they find the hospital completely over-run with people needing treatement after an impact from an unexploded missile ocurred in Stockholm.
Episode 4
Our five main characters have to seek refuge in Magdalena's grandparent's house from acid rain coming over from Russia. They find no sign of her grandparents, instead they find a strange man stealing their stuff.
Episode 5
The group break into a military installaton and steal food. They start driving off.
Episode 6
We briefly meet The Radio People. The group decides to drive toward Denmark. They meet a Woman, Anna, who must go to Gothenburg. They take her with them. They are briefly captured by the cult. But escape. However, Phil dies by gunshot whilst they escape.
Episode 7
The Group is reacaptured by crazy farming cult. They escape, but magdalena was separated, so they go looking for her. After freeing her, Magnus has a moment alone with the people that killed Phil.
Episode 8
The Group hang around Gothenburg, trying to find medication for Magdalena. They board a train south, to Halmstad, on their way to escape to Denmark.
Episode 9
The group get caught on the train at Halmstad. They get taken to the prison of Halmstad and forced to be in the same cell as someone with a mysterious disease, while Magdalena gets checked out for her illness.
Episode 10
Magnus has to relive his memories whilst Nils interogates him.
Episode 11
After breaking into the camp, the group meets up with Magdalenas parents just as Magdalena passes away. They attempt escape, but are thwarted. One year later, Sara, now in prison, writes a letter to the others. Later, she receives a phone call.

Anders (Male) is a former security guard for the government in his late 20s. He is brash and tough on the outside, but quickly warms up to the others. Quite friendly once he does.
He is one of the main characters and will be there throughout the entire series

(focused) Okay, okay. Here. Let’s think about what would have been hit by nuclear missiles. The Big cities in the Soviet Union and US. Leningrad, Moscow and whatever else. If we go through Denmark we should be fine! We just try and get to Copenhagen then the Rest of Europe.
(yelling) Get out of the car! Or I’ll shoot!
Someone who is very lax with rules, is fine with helping people, but doesn't want to be affected negatively by helping people.

(calling back, acting as if everything is alright) No! No! All good here! You and your men just focus on the others!
(worried about himself) I didn’t know they were there! I swear! I’m so sorry! Don’t tell Nils!
He gets paid to unload trains but not enough to take it very seriously. Very nonchalant.

(agreeing) Shouldn’t take us too long. Three carriages left to unload. Not too long.
(sarcastic) You all seem like a jolly bunch.
Just a side character, someone who looks after newcomers to the survivor's camp. Is much more friendly than other soldiers.

(aside, distant, calling out) Right! Families with surnames starting with “A”! -- Ahlstedt, Almquist, Alvin, Andersson and Angermann! Can you please get off the train!
(showing people around) Here we are everyone! A bit better than that cramped train, isn’t it? As you can see, you are going to have a very comfortable time here. We have food, water, all the essentials. -- (in another officer's way, moves) Sorry, sir. (continues with tour) And you can see, there are soldiers all over this camp! They are here to protect you from people like those who were in danger in Stockholm! -- Here to support you whenever you need it! Now! Come over-
Is looking into cures for an illness. Tries to stay positive and vigilant. Spends their time reassuring Scientist 2. Is a lot more approachable than Scientist 2.

(about a chemical spillage, anxious) None of it got on you, did it?! (
(on edge) I don’t think so… It’s not the gun we are worried about.
(a little apologetic) There was a lot going on and… And the meteorologists on the radio said that the radiation wouldn’t reach here for a few days…
Is looking into cures for an illness. Is only doing this due to a promise from the army of medication for their sister's illness. Often stressed and doesn't fully trust the army.

(annoyed, fed up) Argh! Come on! This equipment here is so shit! Work!
(getting too much) …But then I can’t see my sister… This can’t be happening… It can’t!
(serious) Sir, we think you’re gonna want to hear this.
A good friend of one of the main characters, someone one of the main characters knew from the army back in the 1950's. A soldier that isn't as uptight as you'd expect from a soldier, more relaxed.

(being shot at!) That bullet came from one of these buildings!
…They still aren’t shooting… Surely they would have at least got soldiers to come and search for us; patrol the area… …It’s too quiet out there…
A soldier that takes orders from one of the main characters back in the 1950's. Isn't afraid to speak his mind and say when he thinks things are being done in the wrong way.

(being shot at!) I knew we shouldn’t have trusted your plan! Now we’re gonna be killed!
The wife of one of the main characters. She is ill and gets headaches but refuses to go to the hospital to sort them out. A very kind and polite person, a people pleaser.

(politely tells Magnus to be quiet) Now, now, Magnus. (to Åsa) Thank you, Åsa! How's the new job going?
(in slight pain) Argh… You can keep going, I’ll probably come back out later.
The mother of one of the main characters. We see her when she is on edge as she wants to protect her son during bombing in ww1.

You… You brat! -- YOU LET THEM DIE! -- YOU LET US DIE!
(on edge, hurry up!) Magnus! Do as I say! Those bombs are getting closer! Put on the gas mask and come with me! If you don't, dust from debris will get into your lungs. Now come on!
Magdalena's loving father. First line is before the explosion so everything's normal. The rest are in the camp after not having seen his daughter in a while.

(unbothered) The spider is more scared of you than you are of it, just leave it alone.
(Worried, hasn’t seen his daughter in a while) Oh dear lord, I thought we lost you! Oh great lord!
(Trying to comfort his wife) We’ll have the camp doctor look at her, I’m sure he’ll be able to help her.
Magdalena’s overbearing mother. Hasn’t seen her daughter in a while and is incredibly concerned.

(Worried, hasn’t seen her daughter in a while) Oh my god! Magdalena, oh my god! Come here baby!
(scared) Are you okay? What’s wrong with her?
(terrified) Magda? Wake up Magda, talk to me! She’s unconscious!
Bored but dedicated to their job, which is to protect the camps.

(yelling) Hey! You all! Stop right there!

We aren’t in charge of who goes into what tent, but our supervisor, Mr. Beck just walked past.
Wait! There he is! Over there, with the green beanie. That’s Mr. Beck. Go ask him.
We’re not to leave our posts under any circumstances, remember?
Mildly overworked and underqualified, though he himself wouldn’t think so.

(Annoyed) Uh, I'm not so sure. I don’t think… I don’t think the tents are arranged by names. Do you know when they arrived? Then I could point you in the general direction?
(Annoyed) Well alright. If they’re not running around out here, they should be in that Tent over there. The sixth one on the right. Now go, quick!
(Suspicious) This is Beck, I need some guards to join me in tent B6, something weird going on.
Cocky and power hungry. He has power over the survivors and mistreats them. The group throws a rock at him as a distraction.

(Pissed off) Argh, Who was that? Who the hell did that?
(Angry) Yes, I’m fine. Someone threw a rock at me… (loudly) Alright everyone! Free-Roam is over! Get into the Tent and wait. Me and the general will find out which one of you maggots did that and punish you.
(Annoyed) Ugh, you city idiots. Go talk to Mr. Beck.
Just some guy. The three lines here are the only lines in the script.

Yudex are supernatural creatures, in charge of judging humans for rebirth. All knowing with perfect judgement, always kind and compassionate, no matter what.

I have no name. I can tell you… what I am. I am Yudex. You can call me whatever you want.
(Explaining) That’s why I’m here. Our system filters cases with predetermined filters, but to make sure that the cases truly are of undeserved and untimely deaths, one of us is assigned to give you a quick interview. It won’t take long.
(Understanding) Alright. When I leave this room, the lights will go out. You will be dead. Do you understand?
She is the head guard of the Lulea prison. She has a booming voice, but has compassion for her prisoners, as most of them are not guilty of anything and she knows that.

(Booming voice) Rise and Shine everyone! Wake up! Up and at em! That goes for you too, Ahlgren!
(Bored) Okay, Breakfast is over, time to work!
(Whispering) The warden wants to see you.
An inmate of Lulea prison who Sara befriended. They get along well.

(chuckling) When the warden said we could get a reward if we behaved well I didn’t expect you asking to send letters instead of getting extra yard time.
(focused) Well… if you have a 2 and a Queen you’d have a full house.
(jokingly) Oh come on, you’re killing me, give those to me!
An inmate of Lulea prison and one of the only non innocent ones. Nobody likes her.

(whispering) Shh. Or the guards will hear you. You know, we never talk.
(whispering) Do you have a cigarette?
(scoffing) You don’t need to be so rude about it!
Just like the prison guard, he knows most inmates are innocent and treats them fairly.

Ms. Ahlgren, it’s good to see you again.
Well… Just a moment ago, I received a phone call. The caller asked for you.
I don’t know, they didn’t say. Here, take the phone.

Move your fat ass Yuri. Seeing you crawling through the hatches reminds me of when I'm loading the torpedos for the drills!
(in a rush) Move it Nikolai! Go! Out of the way, I need to get out!

A soviet submarine officer who is often mocked by his peers.

What about if the Americans show up? Like with comrade Arkhipov.
A friend told me about him once. He was patrolling when American Ships attacked his submarine. There was no word from Moscow, so the Captain thought a war had started and wanted to shoot the torpedoes. But comrade Arkhipov refused. It’s why we’re all alive now.
(agitated) I was just saying.
A soviet submarine captain who is quick to overreact.

An incompetent soviet submarine officer. He is very panicky and worries a lot.
