{Emergency Casting Call} Audio Drama/Horror Thriller Character needed

Project Overview

We are about 8 episodes into our Miniseries, "The Roundtable Discussions." They are not roundtable discussions, per say, in world of the Main Show "Whispers from the Void," which is set in modern day Houston, Texas, there is a show called "Whispers from the Void." It is an informational show about the eldritch horrors and cults that exist in that world.

The Miniseries is the truth of the Roundtable Discussion videos. They are actually stuck in some pocket dimension and are forced to read scripts for an powerful entity. The reasons are unknown for one day the 10 of the finished the discussion on a cult of Hastur and wound up in the pocket dimension they are in.

Due to life being life, the actor for Dr. Connor O'Donnell, one of the experts, has stepped away. We are sad to see them go, however we need someone to fill in the spot and take over as the Expert on Cultural Folklore/Mythology.

The Roundtable Discussions lead into the second show we are working on, Into the Dreamlands, where Connor plays a larger role in the series as a hole. Suffice to say, this will be a long term role.

Notes/Requirements:

  • Clear microphone and recording quality (minimal to no background noise)

  • Ability to record reliably and meet deadlines

  • Discord to communicate

  • Demos are encouraged, but not required

  • 18+ only . This project is SFW but includes mature themes.

Wants: Connor wants to uncover the hidden truths buried within folklore and mythology, believing that every legend holds a fragment of real history or forgotten knowledge.

Needs: He needs to accept that not all myths can be explained away by logic and that some stories persist because they are more than just human imagination.

Weakness: His unrelenting enthusiasm sometimes blinds him to danger, as he is too eager to pursue knowledge without considering the risks involved.

Goal: Connor’s goal is to document and understand how ancient myths evolve into modern fears, bridging the gap between the past and present.

Backstory: Dr. Connor O’Donnell lives and breathes mythology. To him, myths are not just old stories but echoes of something greater, whispers of truth distorted by time. From childhood, he was obsessed with the strange and the unexplained, devouring books on folklore, cryptids, and ghost stories while other kids were playing sports. This passion led him to a career in comparative mythology, studying how different cultures describe similar horrors, from the shadowy figures lurking at the edges of the world to gods who demand sacrifice.

His best-selling book, Echoes of Eldritch: Modern Myths, explores the persistent nature of ancient fears, drawing connections between primordial terrors and contemporary urban legends. He has appeared on numerous talk shows, podcasts, and documentaries, always ready to excitedly explain why humanity’s most ancient nightmares never truly fade, they just change shape. His engaging lectures make him a popular figure in academia and public discourse alike, but his genuine passion sometimes makes him dismiss the idea that some myths might be more than just stories.

Voice Type: Mid-range to slightly high male voice, warm, fast-talking, expressive, with an inquisitive and excited tone.


 Audition Lines:

(pauses, considering)

  • It’s possible. This world is filled with beings that serve roles beyond our understanding. The Leng Spiders could very well be agents of something greater, perhaps even emissaries of the Outer Gods. There’s a theory that the Plateau of Leng is a kind of threshold between worlds, a place where different dimensions meet. The Leng Spiders might be tasked with guarding this threshold, ensuring that only certain forces can pass through.

    (slightly uncomfortable to a very horrified)

  • She first got defiant. Well, angry is the better word. She got angry at our situation and lashed out at just kind of the area around us. The lights came up, the recording stopped and everything happened so fast… [short pause] Thick, black tendrils ripped from the ground and wrapped around her. She was bound to the ground, her struggling just made the binds tighter, her screaming filled the room. Then, one of those things… a nightgaunt I believe, it placed a hand on her head and-

(weak, pained, annoyed)

  • Like I told those armored masochists who dragged me in here, and the assholes on the street: I’m not from here! I don’t know this place!

    

(frightened anger)

  • Draw blood?! How the fuck am I supposed to do that?! It’s got a giant metal bulls head, arms like a truck and like twelve feet tall!
