***I DON'T HAVE A DISCORD - MESSAGE ME IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS***
Originally a webcomic, now a cartoon, DROPOUTS is an animated mumblecore slice-of-life tragedy about a bunch of losers trying to win. I am in the midst of creating the pilot episode and hope to find voice actors willing to help me out despite the fact I'm a broke bitch.
It's greatly preferred if the voice actors are over 18. The general tone of the and style of acting is meant to be naturalistic (think something like a Safdie bros or Ralph Bakshi movie). Characters are meant to have a wide range of subtle emotions that they can wildly switch between within seconds. Improv is encouraged, though try not to go completely off-script - just adjust a line if it sounds weird when you say it.
While not a requirement, being willing and able to voice multiple characters would be a plus, especially background characters.
You can find the (unfinished) comic at dropoutscomic.net, which also includes an extended scene preview of the scene showed in the teaser, and will continuously be updated with more scenes as I finish them. You may notice there is already "voice acting" in the form of sound effects, but that's just a placeholder.

watch:
The version on Newgrounds is considered the "definitive" version (aka the version with fixed volume adjustment and my beloved film grain......)
Lead role. Nick is the rebellious and bitter anchor to the rest of the characters, unsatisfied with the cards life has dealt him. His voice and way of speaking is meant to be venomous, stilted, deep and harsh, while being capable of intense emotional vulnerability.
[screaming gradually louder, banging on something, talking through gnashing teeth] I am so fucking *sick* of constantly needing to JUMP through all these FUCKING HOOPS just to do the most basic SHIT. [Guttural screaming, voice cracking] WORK, COCKSUCKER! WOOORRRK!
[Warm, encouraging, reserved, quiet] Hey, hey, hey, you're the strongest one of us all. Look how far you've made it. You'll get through this.
[controlled shouting, angry] [Quietly] It's not! [Loudly] It's not! It's not OK! [Pause, then snappy and agitated] But I don't got time to be mad, let's just go.
Lead role. Latino-American. Marissa is the overworked single mother who is trying to distant herself from her friends for her own sake. Her voice is soft yet authoritative, with the hint that underneath a motherly exterior is years of constant stress and disappointment piling on, a side of her that she lets air out whenever the opportunity shows itself.
[Low energy, agitated] We're out of pancakes, honey, I'll pick some up next time we go shopping.
[Gentle] No, you don't, Nick. You're my best friend, and I wanted to stay together, but you never buckle down. You're still living like a- a kid...
[Through gritted teeth] I fucking hate... this PIECE OF SHIT! FUCK! WHY CAN'T YOU JU- oh my god I'm gonna snap this thing in half
Minor role in the episode, main for the series. African-American. Spends most of the episode in pain.
[Delirious, fading away] What- what- wha- what happened? ...Is my car OK? This isn't my car. This isn't...
[Soft, quiet, raspy] Naahh, you got work and shit. Come over when you're free, if you feel like it. Ashley can come, if she wants.
Minor role in the episode, main in the series. African-American plus-sized woman. Nevaeh is the chronically depressed heart and soul of her group of friends. Her voice is that of someone who is constantly thinking of something else; monotone, quiet, distracted, a sort of "done with everything" attitude, but she does try to force out positive vibes. She just can't muster it in the face of total apathy.
[Annoyed, judgmental] C'mon, Iggy, the rest of us have to put on a nice face, what's stopping you?
[Huffs] [Stating it like it was obvious] I knew that thing was only gonna be trouble.
Minor role in the episode, main in the series. Igor is the antisocial nerd with an interest in engineering. He is cold and struggles to care for other people as well as himself, but tries to anyways. There isn't much malice in him, and he isn't know to hold a grudge, but can be quick to become the sadist whenever he's provoked.
[Joking, with a hint of resentment] Well hey, the way I see it, these soon-to-be corpses don't have to interact with me and I get to watch them suffer at the hands of automation. Everybody wins!
[Offended] Hell no! I am not using up both my breaks to drive you to a job when you can just take the bus.
[Assertive] She's fine, man. Just talk to her.
Main role. Ashley is the everything-addicted wild child of the group. In this episode, she spends much of it crashing from a meth binge, and is in a low-energy state.
[Agitated] Jesus, Alright, give me a minute!
This is a good neighborhood, and I don't even drive this thing anyways, I'm not too worried about my car getting stolen.
[Sarcastic] Good to see you, too. [Serious] Nah, I think it's worn off.
Very minor role. Ashley's sleazy 43-year-old cokehead boyfriend.
[Slick] Yeah, but you look good in that. It's cute, it barely fits you!
Told my wife my flight was last night, so I gotta book it before she sees me, her shift starts in an hour.
Two kids, minor roles. Luis is 4 while Saul is 2 and a half. It would be nice if someone just got their kids to record the lines but hey if you can sound like a realistic toddler that's fine by me, too.
[Luis] I MAY BE DUMB BUT MOM STILL HATES YOU!
[Luis] Let's go shopping! Shopping! PANCAKES!
[Saul] [Excited, stuttering] Dad I was in the car place and I kicked it and it went high
Random background characters. Minor roles. AVAILABLE CHARACTERS: Hanna (20 year old female, second line), Beverly (20-something female, first line
[Young woman, single line] [Reserved, worried] Hey, Nick, David wants to talk to you.
[Young woman, multiple lines] [Friendly greeting] Hi-hi! HelpBaby customer service, Hanna speaking! How can I help you?
