Deviant Robot Transmission - A Podcast about ideas, imagination, science and interesting stuff

Project Overview

Please note: If you are looking for a casual or short-term project, this is unlikely to suit. If you want to build something consistent with the right people, it is worth applying.

Hosts wanted for Deviant Robot Transmission (Podcast Reboot)

We are recruiting three hosts to join an existing member and form a four-person team. Selection will be based primarily on chemistry, honesty, and long-term fit.

Core direction of the show

This is a long-form, curiosity-driven podcast. It is not focused on current events. Conversations will start with games, films, books, science, or culture, but should move toward deeper exploration—ideas, systems, personal perspectives, and future implications.

About the broader project

Deviant Robot Transmission is part of the Deviant Robot project—an independent platform centred on technology, creativity, and culture, with a history of thoughtful, exploratory content. The podcast is intended to become a core part of that ecosystem as it grows.

A previous version of the show ran for 100+ episodes and included live recordings at Deviant Robot Live. While live events are not guaranteed, they indicate the direction the project may take again.

What we are looking for

We are interested in genuine voices—people who:

  • Have something to say

  • Are willing to be open, honest, and occasionally vulnerable

  • Are comfortable sharing their perspective with an audience

  • Bring a strong sense of humour, with good timing and awareness

This is not about performance or persona. Authenticity matters more than polish.

What matters most

  • Chemistry with the team

  • Authenticity and openness

  • Humour and conversational timing

  • Ability to listen and build on discussion

Format and commitment

  • Weekly recordings (typically Sunday)

  • Sessions of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours

  • Expectation that all four hosts attend regularly

  • Light weekly prep (sharing ideas and talking points)

  • Video podcast — you must be willing to appear on camera

Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older

  • Reliable availability and long-term commitment

  • Good microphone, camera, and recording setup

  • Willingness to sign a standard performance release contract

Compensation

  • This is a paid role (details discussed at interview stage)

How to apply
Send:

  • A short introduction

  • A 3–5 minute audio or video sample

  • Topics or ideas you would bring to the show

  • (Optional) Links to previous work

Availability for follow-up
Include:

  • Your weekly availability (especially Sundays)

  • Your time zone

  • Availability for a 30–45 minute remote interview in the coming weeks

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a recorded group session to assess chemistry with the existing host.

Latest Updates

  • Added old example of the previous version of the show.

I have updated the posting to include a video of Episode 100 from the previous generation of the Deviant Robot Transmission. In general, the show was audio-only, but we experimented with creating video versions, and so we now have an example to share.

Please note that this was recorded in 2016, and the audio quality and overall style are, to say the least, somewhat loose. I hope it nevertheless provides an interesting example of what we used to do.

This role centres on being a consistent, authentic voice within a small team, contributing to long-form conversations that prioritise curiosity, depth, and genuine perspective. You will be expected to engage openly with ideas across games, film, books, science, philosophy, and culture, using them as starting points for broader discussion rather than surface commentary. The role requires a willingness to think out loud, challenge and be challenged, and occasionally be vulnerable in front of an audience. It is not performative; credibility comes from honesty, clarity of thought, and the ability to communicate ideas in a way that remains engaging over extended discussions.

Strong candidates will demonstrate natural conversational awareness—knowing when to lead, when to support, and when to step back. A sharp sense of humour, good timing, and an ear for audience engagement are important, but should feel organic rather than forced. Reliability and consistency are essential, as the role depends on regular participation and light preparation between recordings. Over time, you will help shape the tone, direction, and identity of the show, contributing not just as a speaker but as part of a cohesive unit building a long-term creative project.
