Deceptum: The Mysterious Murders of London - Mystery & Crime fiction Role-playing Community

Project Overview

  1. Greetings to all talented voice actors!

We are the Deceptum Community. This is a roleplaying community that has the genre of mystery and crime fiction in the setting of Victorian Era in 1880s. This is a project where our Non-Playable Characters (NPCs) will be needing voice acting aside from the texts provided for the players. This is for the role-players to be fully immersed to the community we built and hopefully, you'd take part in this, too!

As for those who take interest to our community, these are important notes we would like to share with you:

  • Clear and good quality audio is HIGHLY PREFERRED. You do not need to have a professional kit, but please make sure that there is no background noises or voice echo in the file.
  • Please try your best to PUT EMOTIONS and FEELINGS into your audition! We have always leaned more towards voice actors who show passion in their voice acting for characters.
  • This is a role-playing community, however, we will be needing ONLY voice actors who could bring our characters into life since role-playing is for participants.

If you want to learn more about our community, you may browse through our Community Document and check out the Character Showcase. Also, please be sure to browse through all characters we are currently open for audition. You may find some characters that might interest you!

• Prologue

In a cold dim room surrounded by thick walls and shelves, a man with a small lamp lit through the night avoiding the darkness to engulf him.

“Oh, hello.” A voice of a mysterious man cut through the silence.

“Look at you, the expression on your face and the curiosity overflowing in your eyes seem as close to a newborn, I might say. Do not dwell on it for I am here to guide you.” A man pauses for a while then continues.

“Merlin, that is what the strangers called me.” He laughs lightheartedly. “Have no fear; I am not a wizard who would cast a spell upon you. I am just a humble overseer who looks after all tales and mysteries-- stories of love, greed, beauty, life,  death, justice and morality.”

“I will take the plume and write down the chronicles and mysteries you wish to unveil.”

“You see, we are always weighing the scales to make the best decision. However, sometimes, the story and the lives of those whom you interfere with might be anchored on the choices you make whether they will cease to exist or persist to live.”
“In terms of your story--” A man slides a document closer to you. “Take a look at this, your story will all begin with the invitation from the General Post Office…”

See the Deceptum Community Document on page 2.

“Does this interest you enough?” He chuckled lightly.

“Would you accept this as a challenge: to outwit one another and wrap your version of justice around your fingers? Let this story test your sense of morality and know which side you are on. Would you fight for a change or do nothing about it?”

“Take the opportunity into your grasp and decide now…”

A man leaned back a bit and spoke in a relaxed manner. “Hmm...It seems like you still hesitate, don’t you? No worry, I will be right here. You can reach out to me anytime. I will be waiting for your application form and your most-awaited arrival.”

“Till we meet again.”

Felix Scott doesn’t talk much about his past, but that is simply because he doesn’t really have one, or he refuses to remember he had one.

In a big, yet dilapidated house, he didn’t know which of the ladies was his real mother. But he knew that they sacrificed a lot to keep him there, he could hear the crying and pain in their voices every night. That's why he didn’t object when they told him it was time for him to repay them… by managing the brothels as he grew older. He met a man who offered to invest into his empire, and in recent years, his line of business has expanded with the help of influential people in London.

And he’ll crawl to hell on all four if that means he’s getting what he wants. And let’s be real, this country is dying. A f*cking dinosaur of a nation. No matter how many factories they build, this country is doomed. So at least make some f*cking money whilst you’re raping the motherland raw.

Nothing could stand between him and his aspiration. It’s for the greater good, you see.

Well, one day you’ll see.

Alexander Kensley is a straight-forward and self-opinionated nobleman from another powerful family on par with the Lancasters. He owns a pharmaceutical company which is the main competitor of the Lancasters.

Despite multiple losses in his business, he still stands as one of the most renowned and formidable businessmen in London.

Alexander had devoted his life and blood into effort, went through many hardships and sacrificed many things. With that, he has bitterness against those who were given the privilege to be on top without burning the candle on both ends. In his opinion, there was a clear line between a true great noble and a living being which had the word noble attached to its name.

  • (Engaging himself in a quarrel with an enemy, splashing the wine on his face out of his anger)

“I saw your notes earlier, and I think…  *trails off and speaks in a lower voice*  you forgot to measure around my neck. *calm voice* To make a great tailored suit, it is important to measure all relevant parts of one's body. Worry not, you can measure and note it down right now or if your uncle knows, he is probably going to be mad. *chuckles playfully*”

  • (Addressing Mr. Radford, the tailor, who coughed loudly)

“*With a hint of worry in his voice* I heard that you were sick recently, *Relieved* but I hope you have fully recovered, Mr. Radford. *Talks playfully, teasing*  It seems like your coughing speaks louder than words.”

Role assigned to: mishti_misa

Vain, superficial yet endearing and wise beyond her years, Charlotte Courtenay is equipped with quick wit and a charm of a lady.

Lady Courtenay has started writing a monthly social and advice column for one of the most read publications in the country. However, the celebrated lady is nothing like she seems. Vain, jealous with an unquenchable thirst for power and money, the noblewoman is your textbook villainess.

Note for those who will audition: British accent is highly favoured but it is not necessary.

  • (Sharing her thoughts about the ‘gentleman of her dreams’)

“*Dreamily sigh* A man is nothing but his heart.  If he is hardworking, honest, and he dedicates himself to the wellness of others, then this author should rather he would make a finer gentleman than one born amidst all the riches of life.”

  • (Talking about a scenario where someone steals her man)

“*Domineering, sounds a bit possessive* Even if there is a pretty and rich lady from a noble family that might come in between us, I would make sure that he always comes back to me. And if he does not, I will make the lady say ‘I’d rather die and be taken away than live a life like this.’ -- *chuckles*  and of course, I kid.”
