Dear Evan Hansen: Waving Through A Screen
Project Overview
Dear Evan Hansen: Waving Through A Screen is going to be a special quarantine performance of Dear Evan Hansen where everyone will be performing from the comfort of their own homes. With editing magic, we will be allowing everyone to not only see our version of this amazing show, but to allows talented performers to play as these fantastic characters. I adore this musical with all my heart and I've always wanted to direct a performance of this show and this is my way of making it happen.
It will be unpaid it's true but this isn't about money, this is about having fun and being a part of something grand! I hope you will join me on this journey, this is something I've been wanting to do for the longest time now and I really want this to work.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Discord account necessary. This is my primary source of communication.
2. For most of the characters, we're going to be using the tracks and sheet music they use for actual Dear Evan Hansen auditions, which you can find on the website here. For Heidi Hansen and Cynthia and Larry Murphy, I suggest looking for musical accompaniment on Youtube.
3. If you are selected, we will need to schedule an interview call so we can get a feel of your acting talent.
4. Have fun!
Thank you for your time and happy auditioning! #YouWillBeFound

Smart, sincere, and painfully self-conscious, Evan prefers to hover in the background, a supporting player in his own life, too afraid to step forward into the spotlight and risk ridicule or, what might be worse, no one noticing him at all.
On the outside, always looking in
Will I ever be more than I've always been?
'Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass
Waving through a window
I try to speak, but nobody can hear
So I wait around for an answer to appear
While I'm watch, watch, watching people pass
Waving through a window, oh
Can anybody see, is anybody waving back at me? (oh)Is anybody waving?
Waving, waving, whoa-oh, whoa-oh

Evan’s mother. Overworked and stretched too thin, Heidi loves her son fiercely, but fears they have begun to grow apart. She is prepared to do anything to repair the damage.
The house felt so big, and I—
And I knew there would be moments that I'd miss
And I knew there would be space I couldn't fill
And I knew I'd come up short a billion different ways
And I did
And I do
And I will

An angry, disaffected loner, Connor has been a troubled kid for as long as anyone can remember, an enigma and a source of endless consternation to his long-suffering parents.
No one deserves to be forgotten
No one deserves to fade away
No one should come and go
And have no one know he was ever even here
No one deserves to disappear
To disappear
DisappearWhen you're falling in a forest
And there's nobody around
All you want is for somebody to find you
When you're falling in a forest
And when you hit the ground
All you need is for somebody to find you

A sensitive, sophisticated high school junior. Cool without realizing it, Zoe couldn't care less about the status games and popularity rites of high school. Funny and bright, she has grown up in the long shadow cast by her volatile older brother, Connor, tyrannized along with the rest of her family by his out-of-control behavior. Few rooms are as familiar to her as the inside of a family therapist’s office. Zoe compensates for her brother’s darkness by striving to be warm, nice to everyone, the kind of person who goes out of her way to learn the names of the kids who sit by themselves at lunch. She feels a terrible ambivalence over her brother’s death, finding it difficult to forgive him for all he did, and at the same time forgive that part of herself that feels nothing but relief in the fact that he’s gone.
Tonight
'Cause when the villains fall, the kingdoms never weep
No one lights a candle to remember
No, no one mourns at all
When they lay them down to sleepSo, don't tell me that I didn't have it right
Don't tell me that it wasn't black and white
After all you put me through
Don't say it wasn't true
That you were not the monster
That I knew

Connor and Zoe’s mother. To Evan, she seems to be the perfect mother, nurturing, available, and willing to talk about anything. To her own children, it’s a bit more complicated.
I hear your voice, I feel you near
Within these words, I finally find you
And now that I know that you are still here
I will sing no requiem tonight

Connor and Zoe’s father. Though often tense and taciturn, Larry shows a different face to the world, representing for Evan the dad he always wished for: strong, confident, and more than anything, reliable, someone to be counted on.
Cause there's a right way in everything you do
Keep that grit
Follow through
Even when everyone around you thinks you're crazy
Even when everyone around you lets things go
And whether you're prepping for some test
Or you're miles from some goal
Or you're just trying to do what's best
For a kid who's lost control

A diligent, conscientious, straight-A high school senior, Alana is a do-gooder and a rule follower. Her acute self-awareness and social anxiety make it difficult to connect with others. Beneath her extroverted demeanor, she is in fact haunted by a terrible and abiding loneliness. Alana seizes the death of a classmate as an opportunity finally to find a sense of belonging. Well-intentioned and self-effacing, Alana is transformed by her fixation on the tragedy.
Does it cross your mind to be slightly sorry?
Do you even care that you might be wrong?
Was it fun?
Well I hope you had a blast while you dragged me alongAnd you say what you need to say
And you play who you need to play
And if somebody's in your way
Crush them and leave them behind
Well I guess if I'm not of use
Go ahead, you can cut me loose
Go ahead now, I won't mindSo you got what you always wanted
So you got your dream come true
Good for you
Good for you, you, you
Got a taste of a life so perfect
So you did what you had to do
Good for you
Good for you

Droll and sarcastic, Jared carries himself with the kind of practiced swagger only the deeply insecure can truly pull off. He is forced by his parents to hang out with family friend Evan, for whom he claims to have nothing but disdain. Jared masks his self-doubt with braggadocio and a know-it-all arrogance.
