Danganronpa: Shadow System

Project Overview

Danganronpa: Shadow System

This project is a free-to-play fan-made visual novel based in the world of the Danganronpa series. In this story, sixteen US high school students, all holding the title of "Ultimate" for a unique talent, are trapped in an unfamiliar building, with no connection to the outside world, and a strangely patriotic, yet psychotic dog mascot that tells them their only chance of escape is to kill.

While this game will take place in the world of Danganronpa, the characters, location, and story will be almost entirely independent from the original game series.

Information and Expectations

This project may consist of scenes depicting violence, death, blood, cursing, psychological distress, sensitive topics, like trauma or mental illness, and other potentially sensitive material. This project is not for kids!

This visual novel is a passion project based on the game series "Danganronpa". While knowing the game series is not a requirement, it is heavily recommended for anyone wanting to take part. This project is early in development, so characters, setting, and story are subject to change. Discord is required as most updates and information will be discussed there.

This project is purely for fun and details like the deadline are flexible and subject to change as the game progresses. Some roles may not be determined until later phases in the project. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me!

Please include discord in your auditions! You're free to apply to multiple roles or characters. For creative roles, please provide an example of past works, or any works similar in style to Danganronpa. For voice acting roles, please only submit good, clear audio without background noise or static. You're free to use other phrases or voices than the ones listed in the role, as long as you're still auditioning for the character you apply for. Note that this visual novel will be shared publicly.

Timeline

Phase 1:

Story/Script Writers Auditions: Due February 28th

Programmer Auditions: Due February 28th

Phase 2:

Creative roles (Artists, Animators, Sound): Due May 31st*

Phase 3:

Voice Acting Roles: Due December 31st*

*Subject to change

Phase 1

Phase one is the early planning stage, where the story, characters, and mechanics are being determined. While all roles can be auditioned for, roles and project info are subject to change and will likely not be determined this phase.

Phase 2

Phase two is the building phase. Artists, programmers, musicians, and writers will be working on the game itself, setting up the script and mechanics for visual novel gameplay. Priority and creative roles, like artists, writers, and programmers, will be determined during this phase.

Phase 3

Phase three is the voice acting phase. While the gameplay will likely still be a work-in-progress, the story and script are set in stone. This is the phase where we give our cast their voices.

Important!
  • This is a fan made Danganronpa visual novel project! I'm not associated with Team Danganronpa or other fan Danganronpa works.

  • You must be 16 years or older to apply for these roles.

  • This is a long-term project and will likely take a long time to complete! Please only submit auditions if you are willing to stick around for the long run.

Latest Updates

  • New role!

After some discussion, I've split the "script writer" role and added the "story writer" role for those who want to focus on enhancing the story itself as opposed to writing the lines that will be used in the game. Those who applyed for the script writer role before the change will still be eligible for the story writer role! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

  • Mini Project Update!

In addition to removing Major/Minor from roles, I added some pronunciation help to each of the characters so it'll be easier to understand some of the tougher names like Daedalus and Monoinu. Let me know if there's any questions!

Due to some conflicting info/confusion for Major/Minor roles, all major and minor role characters are now considered "side" characters. Voice acting workload varies for all the characters, so be prepared if you audition! Main characters remain unchanged.

  • Major Project Update!

So sorry for the long wait everyone! A few major life events caused some delays, but we're finally back in business right in time for the new year! There have been a lot of updates including better descriptions for the characters, role changes (Oliver -> Closed), name changes (Romeo -> Roman), and a few small line/personality updates for the characters. Now that the story and roles have updated for the cast, some new deadlines for phase 1 have been added! We're looking for writers and programmers to help turn our current outline into the foundation of a new Fanganronpa. Other roles can still be auditioned for and past submissions are still being reviewed even with the changes. The audition discord has also been added to the Casting Call. (Note some factors for characters and story are still subject to change)

Let me know if you have any questions and good luck!
