DanganRonpa 2 Goodbye Despair Fandub Series

Project Overview

So alongside my DanganRonpa V3 Fandub, I've decided to do a series of mini fandubs from DanganRonpa 1, and now 2 as well!


The vast majority of the characters have been cast offsite, as so I'm just here to cast a few of the remaining ones!

I may yet still add more, however. 
But for now, the following characters have been 100% cast;

My aim is to do some of the trails, free time stuff, character intro's and the ending. So there will be some spoilers!

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair takes place shortly after the events of Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls. The game is from Hajime Hinata's point of view as he starts his first year at Hope's Peak Academy. As he walks into the school building he is overcome with fatigue, when he recovers he finds himself in front of a door. He has the strong urge to open it, and once he does he finds himself in a classroom full of his new classmates. 
They suddenly find themselves locked in the classroom and a pink bunny, Usami, appears before them, claiming herself the class' teacher. Suddenly the classroom around them falls away to reveal a paradise-like island. Usami tells them they are on a school trip and they are to befriend each other to gain hope fragments and make their hope grow. Just as they get used to the peaceful island life, Monokuma appears and takes control of the island, announcing that the students must participate in a life of mutual killing if they wish to escape.

I'm happy for girls to try out for him too, seeing as he was voiced by Megumi Ogata in the Japanese version.



Voice - Medium to high/medium

Nagito first comes off as a polite, friendly, and easygoing, yet somewhat insecure boy. Hajime Hinata even mentions that his bright smile is very comforting. He was the only one that stayed with Hajime while he was unconscious, and expressed concern for his well-being, even after Hajime told him to go away. Though friendly with everyone, he is mostly interested in spending time with Hajime, and can be quite clingy. Hajime considers him a little annoying and not the most reliable, but still a kind person.

    "…I’m Nagito Komaeda. Nice to meet you."

  • "No matter what kind of despair awaits you, hope will overcome it. The deeper and darker the despair... the brighter and more powerful the hope born from it."

  • "Meaningless"... No other word is more despair-inducing than that. But you mustn't give up! You must face forward with hope in your hearts, and do your best! You are the symbols of hope, because you can recover and rise up, again and again!"

Voice - Deep pitch

Gundham has an eccentric and somewhat dark personality. He often claims that he has been blessed with the evil powers of the underworld, and refers to everyone else as 'pathetic human beings'. Gundham is often lost in his own little world, usually paying more attention to himself or his hamsters than the things that are going on around him, such as in Chapter 1 when he failed to investigate after the murder and putting his lost Hell Hound Earring at a higher priority. He may also have an interest or knowledge of alchemy.

  • "You may call me…Gundham Tanaka! Remember it well, for it is the name that will one day rule this world!"

  • "Pleasure and pain are irrelevant as long as you have a purpose and take action for that sake."

  • "Feeling sin is proof that you exist in a higher plane of being... In that sense, you should be proud of yourself, human."

I'm not a fan of Peko's voices, so I'd prefer an original take for her, with an American accent too. 


Voice - Medium to deep pitch

Peko comes off as a very serious and stern woman who shows little to no emotions. She speaks with an authoritative tone of voice, and she is mostly business. Despite her authoritative tone, she is respectful of authority figures and does not police the other students. She also loses track of time when practicing martial arts, but she is not antisocial or unwilling to stay around the other students, as can be seen when she agrees to attend the Ultimate Imposter's party in Chapter 1.

  • "Smiling is not something you have to force. When your heart gets warm, smiles come to you naturally."

Mahiru Koizumi

Voice - Medium pitch, cheerful/friendly


Mahiru is an optimistic and sensible girl who is generally rather calm and unafraid to speak her mind. She initially comes off as confident but is later revealed to have self-esteem issues. Mahiru compares her photographs to those of her mother, a famous war photographer whose career led her to be absent from home for much of Mahiru's life. Her father was a very poor parent, leaving the responsibility of the housework entirely to her. When Hajime Hinata was being scolded by Mahiru, he likened it to being yelled at by his mom.

  • "Let’s see…I’m Mahiru Koizumi. I’ll be counting on you from now on!"

  • "I never erase a photo once I take it. That's my policy. No matter what kind of photo it is, the moment captured in it only exists at that time."

  • "I'm eager to get along with everyone so we can get off this island, but I was worried things wouldn't go well."

Nekomaru Nidai

Voice - Deep and booming, must be able to shout comfortably


Nekomaru is a vigorous, boisterous, openhearted student who is passionate about supporting athletes, but suffers from dyspepsia. He frequently shouts when speaking, being a team manager. He is very optimistic and his will power is immeasurable, but he isn't very smart and he's very bad at lying. He also really appears to enjoy fighting, often in the form of very serious training.

  • "As long as you have friends who have your back, you'll be able to clear a path to the future without giving up."
