CODE 10-33 - A New Podcast

Project Overview

CODE 10-33 is a crime podcast in association with @multiversalpodcastingnetwork which plays with, pokes fun at and completely turns the buddy cop dynamic on its head.

Lieutenant Clancy Nicholson is homicide detective who was once and still is considered one of the best in his field. That is, when he’s not drinking, complaining, and generally hating life. When faced with young new recruit Scott Marshall, Clancy is none too pleased, particularly when he’s told that the youngster will be his new partner, just as the department is faced with a particularly difficult case: A man, murdered in his own apartment, was discovered to have been being blackmailed for ten years prior to his death.

On the other side of town, a week later, another almost identical murder has taken place. And another. And another.

Meanwhile, a man has reported the blackmail that has been going on against him for almost ten years. Upon investigation, the person blackmailing this man has been dead for 5 years.

The clock is ticking. There are more questions than answers. The life of this man, and many more, are on the line, and there isn’t much time.

We are casting for the inital main cast of our new crime podcast CODE 10-33. A document containing our audition guidelines and other information can be found here.

The deadline is July 27th 2018, 11:59PM GMT. Any questions, feel free to send us an email to [redacted], shoot us an ask on Tumblr @code10-33 or comment on this project and we'll get back to you ASAP.

Lieutenant Clancy Nicholson

cast offsite

Male. 40+. Standard American Accent. A older homicide detective who was once and still is considered one of the best in his field. A heavy drinker, Clancy spends most of his time complaining and generally hating life. His disgruntled nature and outlook on life stems from what he refers to as ‘personal issues’, although no one in the police department seem to know what those ‘personal issues’ might be.

Character References: Anyone played by Clancy Brown, Carl Fredricksen (Up), Commissioner Gordon (Batman)

  • (Disbelief, annoyance) Partner? Jesus christ, look at him, he's fresh out of the fucking womb…

  • (Angry and defensive) I can't work this this guy. In fact, I refuse to work with him. You can't put this kid on a homicide case, he probably doesn't even know how to tie his own fucking shoelace.

  • (Panic, concern) It’s gonna be alright, you’re gonna be alright. We’re gonna get you some help, kid, don’t worry. You’re okay. You’re okay…

Male. 20s. Standard American Accent.  Young and intelligent, Scott is Clancy’s new partner. He is confident, resourceful, and quick, and just the kind of guy who would get on Clancy’s nerves. He tends to do everything by the book, although his curiosity and determination often causes him to follow Clancy’s more ‘fuck the rules’ approach.

Character References: Connor (Detroit: Become Human), Derek Morgan (Criminal Minds)

  • (Formal, polite) Lieutenant Nicholson? Good afternoon, my name is Scott Marshall. (short, semi awkward pause) I believe you’re expecting me? I’m here to assist with the investigation?

  • (Piecing together evidence) All the blood in the bedroom implies that’s where he was killed. But if the victim was in the bedroom when he was stabbed, then how did he end up in the living room? There’s no obvious sign of struggle, and no blood in the hallway… We must be missing something. But what?

  • (Angry, defensive, and afraid) I didn’t know what to do, okay? The fact that man ended up getting shot is not my fault. I didn’t take the shot, and another officer chose to instead, how does that make this my fault?

Detective Queenie Marsh

Role assigned to: teagarden

Female. 30s. Standard American Accent. The detective handling the blackmail case before it was transferred to homicide. Queenie is efficient and good at what she does, and has a trusting air about her. She is determined to help the investigation in any way she can, and refuses to see another innocent life taken.

  • (Formal) Lieutenant Nicholson, Detective Marshall? My name is Queenie Marsh. Captain Barton told me that I may have some information that might prove useful to your investigation?

  • (Kind, reassuring) You’re doing great. Lieutenant Nicholson can be difficult, but I’m sure someone like you is up for the challenge?

  • (Yelling) Stop right where you are! I have orders to take you alive, but one more move, and I’ll shoot!

Male. Late teens/early 20s. Standard American Accent. A young hacker who is brought in to aide the investigation. Witty and too smart for his own good, Connor can go loveable to someone you’re unable to stand in seconds.

Character References: Todd Brotzman (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency), James (Gone)

  • (Introducing himself) My name’s Connor. This is my sister, Felicity- (FLICK: Flick) Yeah. We call her Flick. What can we do for you, officer?

  • (Whilst working at a computer) It looks like the same person who sent Capello those emails is the same person who was threatening Thompson and Marques. Do you want me to try and run a background check on him?

  • (Soft, fond) You know, I’m glad you guys dragged us into this investigation. I mean, it’s fucking terrifying, but it’s also super cool. I feel like I’m in, like, a movie or something. It’s awesome.

Connor’s sister. Equally as intelligent, yet far more measured, she helps her brother in the investigation. Unable to go out due to her chronic illness, Felicity, or ‘Flick’, learnt everything she knew from her brother, and could even be considered better than him, if his ego weren’t so large.

  • (Writing a blog post) Dearest readers. Today, I bring to you the most important post I think I will ever write. (CONNOR: [laughs]) (Defensive) Shut up!  It’s true. This is super important information.

  • (Softly, hurried) Shh, we don't have much time. We've got to go, now. See her? We need to avoid her. She knows we're not supposed to be here.

  • (Angry) God will you stop thinking I'm so naive?! You treat me like a child, Connor, and that's something else you can't run away from. I'm not a little girl anymore! I’ve grown up, Connor, maybe you should too.

Our ‘femme fetale’. Lilliana is a suave, sexy singer at a local lounge which seems to be more than it first appears. Could she aide the case, or is she hiding information she’s not willing, or unable to, disclose?

  • (Distressed, being interviewed by Clancy and Scott) He’s missing? (CLANCY: Yes. Can you tell me what happened last night?) He asked to see me after the show. I didn’t think anything of it, but then he started…being…awful. Truly, just, awful. Touching my waist, and my arm…It was disgusting.

  • (After performing a song) Thank-you. This next song is dedicated to someone who has recently come into my life. A new friend…

  • [Sing a section of Change of Scene from The Case of the Guilded Lily (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h09F0dLYQSk) OR Why Don’t You Do It Right? by Joseph McCoy/from Who Framed Roger Rabbit (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaeAlG-G968]

Male. 40+. New York accent preferred, but any kind of American accent is fine. Our unfortunate victim-to-be. Tony runs a family owned restaurant in the middle of town, and for the past 10 years a mysterious man has been blackmailing him for reasons Tony will not disclose to the authorities. He claims he doesn’t know, but does he really?

  • (Being interviewed by Scott and Clancy) It’s been goin’ on for years now, I’m tellin’ you. No matter what I do to try and stop it, he just…he keeps on coming back. (CLANCY: Who?) I…I don’t know. I’m tellin’ you the truth, officer, really, I am.

  • (Slightly more panicked) You gotta help me, officer, please. I don’t wanna end up like…the others. Please.
