Calvin & Hobbes Radio Story
Project Overview
Hi ya'll!
This is a short project for a college sound design course.
It's a radio version of one of Bill Watterson's Calvin & Hobbes comic strips. More specifically, a Spaceman Spiff storyline. If you're a fan of Calvin and Hobbes, this will be a lot of fun! Even if you aren't, well, tehese should be some fun voiceovers anyway!
The assignment is due within the next couple weeks, so please only audition if you can get the voiceovers done within a day or two after being cast.
A couple other things to note:
- Please minimize humming or excessive background noise when recording.
-
Do not add music or your own effects to your auditions. Dry reads only--I want to hear your awesome voice! - Project deadline is Friday, April 17th, 2020. If cast, your voiceover will be required that same weekend.
- If cast, Payment will be sent via Paypal. You can also have a copy of the finished radio story for your portfolio if you ask.
Thanks ya'll! Very excited to listen to some auditions!

Calvin is the highest-energy kid you've ever met. He's a whirlwind of imagination and mischief and his voice should reflect that. In this story, he's tearing around with a squirt gun, pretending to be a spaceman marooned on a desert planet fighting off aliens. In reality, these aliens are his neighbors and parents. Age range is around 6-12, but if you're older and can make your voice sound that young, feel free to give an audition a whack!
Hey! Mom! Put me down!
KISS YOUR PROTONS GOOD-BYE, BOOGER BEING!
The monster is only stunned! Spiff quickly tries to arm another bomb!
Calvin's Mom has a very draining life. Her child is getting into constant trouble and she's just about at the end of her rope with his antics. Her voice should be scolding, annoyed, and fed up.
Calvin! If you’re going to tear around with a squirt gun, do it outside! C’mon! Out!
Calvin, don’t you dare throw that water balloon at m-AAHH!
Your son is in his room waiting for you to have a talk with him.
Susie is a very bright, optimistic girl who loves to talk. A lot. Unfortunately, her optimism is often being crushed by her troublesome neighbor, Calvin. Age range for Susie is 6-12, but if you're older and can make your voice sound this age, feel free to knock an audition out of the park!
Hi Calvin! I can see you, so you can stop hiding now! Are you playing cowboys or something? Can I play too?
WHY’D YOU DO THAT YOU MEAN LITTLE CREEP? I’M TELLING YOUR MOM!
Calvin's father is a patient person. Mostly because he works at an office and this allows him to escape from his son's constant mischief for most of the day. He should have a very calm, typical fatherly voice.
Hi honey, I’m home!
Boy, what a day at the....office. (End this line as if he's seeing something strange)
Uh, what’s with all the towels…or don’t I want to know?
