PLOT SUMMARY:
Buck 's Buffoons! is the most popular cartoon studio in the west. After humankind learned to harness the power of ink to create living, breathing drawings (Toons), their knack for entertaining became a pastime CEO Buck C. Dough branded himself. These toons were faster, funnier, and much less of a hassle for a studio than human actors. You can put them to work for hours without them getting tired. In fact, they thrive. Family-friendly fun, witty jokes, charming characters, and harmless villains became a staple, and soon after, many studios began to follow suit.
This wasn’t immediately a concern. Ol’ Bucksy knew his team of BIG BUCKS would keep the money flowing to his pockets. He ensured that they would each bring a different flavor to the group (charisma, pride, neuroticism, wit, persistence, and zaniness) that would give every audience a fan favorite.
Years passed, and the original cartoons are as popular as ever. They’ve even come to expand their catalog to new shows, with characters who are eager to follow in their favorite toon’s footsteps (or pawprints, or claw… you get it!).
Buck’s Buffoons! is the studio to work at if you want to enter showbiz. Humans have evenly found a place amongst the technicolor crew, as the magic backstage or even as castmates to the toon stars.
Best not think about the poor toons that have been going missing around town. Buck himself personally grants your safety! And who’s word could be better than his?
PRODUCTION DETAILS (UPDATED):
The final product will be short audio scenes of characters from this world at different stages in the story's progression. They will be posted online and used as a proof-of-concept for an animated pilot. People who work on this project may be paid if they work on the pilot in the future. These scenes will be uploaded to Youtube and Tiktok.
Stylistically, this had similar aesthetics to things like Looney Tunes and Animaniacs. The world is bright, upbeat, and holds darker, noir-esque undertones.

Role Type: Lead
Voice: Young Adult Female (19)
Delilah is one of the Big Bucks (a super elite group of toon actors!) and an actress at Buck’s Buffoons! Though her show ended years ago, she now produces, does specials, and works with other toons.
She’s a wisecracking, flippant, lackadaisical young woman, who’s hellbent on staying in the centre of attention. Superficial and carefree, the main focus of her mind is staying pretty, rich, and famous. She’s mischievous and playful, often not taking most situations seriously. If the situation has any avenue to be taken up for laughs, Delilah will find it! She loves chasing ideas and changes her mind really quickly, having little focus whatsoever. She loves to find little ironies, or vague contradictions... anything to get under your skin! She’s talkative and a quick-thinker, often starting (and dominating) conversations.
She should be something of a smartass. Bright, youthful, and enchanting. Below are some clips for inspiration.

We are open to any accent! Please also include any singing experience, should you have any. (If you cannot sing, you are not automatically exempt from this role!)
"This is a DISASTER! A catastrophe! A—!" (pause, regains composure) "—mild inconvenience, but still! My hair is FLAT, my dress is wrinkled, and worst of all—he thinks he has the upper hand!"
"Alright, here’s the plan: You distract the fella with the hat, I charm the one with the cigar, and—oh, what’s that? You don’t do distractions? Well, lucky for you, I do everything else. Now shush and look innocent!"
(Sincere, warm) "Listen, kid—life’s a funny thing. Sometimes you’re on top of the world, sometimes you trip on your own shoelaces and land in a puddle. And that's it. But you? You’ve got moxie. And that’s worth more than all the glitz and glamour combined. Now, chin up. We’ve got a show to steal!"

Voice: Adult Male (20)
Buck 's Buffoons! is the most popular cartoon studio in the west. After humankind learned to harness the power of ink to create living, breathing drawings (Toons), their knack for entertaining became a pastime CEO Buck C. Dough branded himself. These toons were faster, funnier, and much less of a hassle for a studio than human actors. You can put them to work for hours without them getting tired. In fact, they thrive. Family-friendly fun, witty jokes, charming characters, and harmless villains became a staple, and soon after, many studios began to follow suit.
...And of course, poor Jack Henry would choose to work at one of the failing ones. His boss is in a bind. In an act of desperation, he sends this underpaid actor out on a mission to recruit toon stars from Bucksy’s studio… and to not stop until their profits are up!
He is quite neurotic, often struggling with his role as a "villain" toon. He's good at heart, but can't deviate from what he was created to be. Still, getting crushed by a falling piano every other day never gets easier. Anxious, over-the-top, and full of nervous energy. A mix between a (newbie) noir detective who’s in way over his head and a guy who just drank three espressos in a row.
We are looking for all interpretations of this character! Voice quality, accent, everything!
"Oh, sure! Yeah! Everything’s fine! Just dandy! Nothing suspicious about ME, nope! No weird behavior, no nervous sweating—" (realizes he’s sweating profusely) "—oh, would ya look at that, I am sweating! How peculiar! Not that it means anything! Ha-ha! …ha. Oh no." (Beat. Sighs.) "I should really stop talking, huh?"
"Alright, alright, alright—lemme lay it out for ya. So, technically speaking, I'm not supposed to be backstage. BUT! In my defense, I wasn’t not supposed to be there either! Y’see, if you think about it—legally, hypothetically, philosophically—does a Toon even count as ‘trespassing’ if he just pops into a place by accident? It’s not like I got a say in it, I got plot momentum! It just happens! And—" (He freezes, realizing how bad this sounds. Clears throat, backpedals.) "Okay, yeah, fine, I broke in, but in my defense, I had a very good reason! …Which, uh, I forgot immediately upon entering, but it must’ve been good, right? RIGHT?!" (nervous laugh, then groans, rubbing temples.) "Okay, okay, let’s focus. What’s important here is that I am completely, one hundred percent, definitely not guilty of anything, other than poor decision-making."
(Jack leans on a desk, talking to himself like a noir detective, but he keeps getting distracted.) "The city’s a cold, cruel mistress. Streets like an old newspaper—full of bad headlines and lousy grammar. Ain’t no room for a guy like me in a place like this… but does that stop me? No, sir. I keep walking, keep talking, keep—uh, what was I saying? Oh, right. I keep investigating. Because that’s what I do. It’s my job. My curse. My destiny. My—" (He blinks, realizing he’s monologuing to an empty room.) "—Wait. Who am I even talkin’ to? Ugh, see, this is exactly why people think I’m weird!"
Role Type: Lead
Voice: Adult, Male-leaning. Can be played by any performer.
There are performers, and then there is Wit. The omnipresent, ever-smiling representative of the studio, Wit does not take the stage, nor do they seek the spotlight. They are not a star, nor a side character. They are simply… there. Watching. Knowing.
Not much is known about Wit’s origins, and those who claim to remember seem to disagree on the details. What is certain, however, is their role—an observer, a narrator, a presence that lingers in the corners of Buck’s Buffoons, always aware of the next big moment before it happens.
Wit is a narrator, of sorts. Coming from an alternate universe, Wit knows the colorful cast of characters as fiction... this should be odd, but they find it to be exciting. They know everything that will happen in this universe before it happens. They have a strict "no spoilers!" policy.
We are open to all interpretations and accents!
(calm, lightly amused) "Ah. I see what’s happened here. You think you have a plan." (They pause, head tilting slightly, as if indulging a child.) "And it almost is one. Truly. You’ve got the pieces—a bit of trickery here, a clever misdirection there. Very charming. But… you’ve built a house of cards in a wind tunnel. And that is where I must step in." (They take a slow step forward, every movement deliberate.) "Now, I could simply fix this for you. That would be the polite thing to do. But I suspect you’d learn very little from that. No, I think it would be much more educational to let you see it unravel on its own. And when it does—when you find yourself backed into a corner you never noticed—remember that I was here. Watching. Waiting." (A knowing, polite smile.) "And entirely unsurprised."
(calm, assured, vaguely entertained) "And now you’ll hesitate… just a second too long. You’ll shift your weight, deciding between fight or flight, and in that moment—ah, there it is. The choice makes itself." (They give a small, knowing smile.) "Predictable, really. But don’t take it personally. Most things are."
(Someone asks them outright if they can see what happens next. A pause, a flicker of consideration—then, amusement.) "Wouldn’t that be something?" (They lean forward just slightly, voice dropping to something almost intimate.) "To always know the punchline before the joke, to step over cracks before they form, to watch the world spin on a thread of inevitability." (And then—) "But no, no. That would be quite impossible." (A beat. A smile.) "Wouldn’t it?"

Voice: Adult Male
Buck C. Dough is a masterclass in corporate sleaze—a man who saw the rise of cartoons not as an art form, but as a business opportunity. He’s ruthless, grumpy, and untouchable, treating Toons like assets rather than actors, but keeping his biggest stars just close enough to tolerate their antics.
Older man. Gruff and grumpy. Something of a Danny Devito or a "Mr. Plotz" from Animaniacs. We are open to all interpretations, but would love to see people try him with a New York accent.
BUCK: "Simple, bub. I make what sells. You think I got to the top by caring about art? Hah! Art don’t pay the bills. But a Toon gettin’ whacked with a frying pan? That’s gold." ((INTERVIEWER: "There have been some recent criticisms about working conditions at Buck’s Buffoons—")) BUCK: "Oh no, criticism! How will I ever recover?" (Rolls eyes) "Listen, pal, my employees got jobs, right? Good jobs. Great jobs! Best jobs in the industry! And yeah, maybe sometimes a Toon gets flattened by a grand piano, but they bounce back. Literally." ((INTERVIEWER: "What about your human employees? Some have reported excessive hours, difficult contracts—")) BUCK: "You know what’s excessive? My success. My influence. My empire. Next question." ((INTERVIEWER: "Let’s talk about your reputation. Some call you a visionary, others… a ruthless businessman. How do you respond to that?")) BUCK: "I say both are right. I am a visionary. And yeah, maybe I’m ruthless—but guess what? That’s why my name’s on the building and not yours."
“If it’s funny, it’s money!” (Buck’s favorite. He says it at every meeting.)
“Remember: Toons work hard so you don’t have to!”
