Academy Showdown Gaiden - Story I - The Barefoot Girl (Audiobook)
Project Overview
Story Synopsis: This short story follows Amos Naragishi, who is a freshman at Eden Academy, a specialized secondary school for assassination and espionage. His target: a strange blonde-haired girl who happens to be a powerful soul mage and an escapee from his client's hidden laboratory. Can Amos, a soul mage in training, hope to survive against an S-Class threat?
The Project itself: This is based on The Barefoot Girl, my 44-page short story set in the Academy Showdown universe, a web novel series I've been writing since I was a teenager. This short story has a small cast, emotional dialogue, and an epic battle.
I can handle the narration myself, but aside from the protagonist, the rest of the cast is female, and I wish to have female voices for these characters. This is solely a passion project. It is also an opportunity to gain new potential readers for my works and possibly some experience and exposure for aspiring voice actors. I'll take excerpts from the story itself and place them here as prompts for auditions.
I plan on releasing this as a YouTube video i.e. Creepypasta narration style. However, if this video manages to make any kind of revenue, then there will be compensation. (via the going rate for voice work).
Given how short The Barefoot Girl is, I wanted to record these sessions as a group reading, but my job as well as other projects will keep me far too busy, so it may be better to record them separately. I can email the script via Google Docs.

This is an audiobook, so please make sure your mic is of acceptable quality. I'll be holding myself to the same standard.

The male lead. Amos is a 15-year-old human freshman and a student from Eden Academy, a hedge school that trains teenagers with magical abilities and other supernatural abilities to become assassins. There he also serves as a member of The Order of Eve, the school’s secret band of assassins tasked with carrying out assassinations and monster capture/exterminations. In The Barefoot Girl, he is tasked with the assassination of Subject-724.
Amos is a whisperer, meaning he can interact with the souls of the dead, forming contracts to harness their power within a spectral plane called "the domain." By sacrificing part of his lifespan, he uses these souls in battle, creating a spectral arm to wield his sword and channel borrowed mana into powerful attacks. His trump card, Spectral Counter, absorbs enemy mana and redirects it, banishing souls and rendering other soul mages powerless.
Note: The Common Tongue (English) is Amos' second language, so he speaks with a slight accent.

[sincere] Hey, uh... For what it's worth, I don't mind it when Twin Drills helps me out. I'm always busy, and it's not like I can just call upon the spirits to do my chores. Things were a bit rough when I first arrived in Cambridge, so it's nice to have an extra pair of hands from time to time…
I don't remember much about my past, nor do I remember anyone in it. But if getting those answers was at stake...[pause] then I would gladly go to any length to have them
The titular female lead. She is an escaped lab subject and powerful whisperer, she was separated from her family long ago and endured nearly five years of experimentation by The Grimm. Over time, her connection to the spiritual plane strengthened until she finally escaped with her powers fully under control, yearning to reunite with her brothers.
Note: She has a bit of a speech impediment, pausing frequently in the middle of her sentences. Very airy.

[solemn] If your life… and everyone in it was suddenly taken away from you in a single day...what would you do… if it meant that you could see them again?
[angry, voice shaking, sobbing] This was their place! Their home!! We were but humble guests in their resting place…and you drove them away…How could you?! This was the only connection they had left to this world… It wasn’t their time yet! And now… Now they can never hope to pass on…
Frida is Amos's adopted older sister and a member of the Order of Eve at Eden Academy. She is a werepyre, born from a vampire and a lycan. Cursed with immortality by the Council of Witches, she retains the appearance of a 15-year-old despite being alive for over a millennium. Five years ago, she met Amos, who she now trains under the guidance of their guardian Ten Orui, believing he may hold the key to breaking her curse. Frida has a blood pact with Amos, allowing her to replenish her mana by drinking from him.
Note: Frida speaks in a deadpan, almost disinterested-sounding tone and NEVER uses contractions.

[slightly dissapointed] To think… that an incredibly craven response would come from one of my students. And from my own brother no less… Surely you did not learn such things from me.
Worry not about what that girl said. Exorcising souls is a tremendous feat. Soon you will be strong enough to lift my curse.
Kaname is a 17-year-old human Operator in her senior year at Eden Academy. She is also a member of The Order of Eve, serving as team leader and head of the support team. She is bright, energetic, sassy, and tech-savvy, known for being straightforward and blunt. She is close friends with Amos and Christy, often acting as a surrogate older sister to both.

[professional with a tinge of worry] Now remember, Wolf, Subject-724 is an S-Class target, capable of killing an enraged manticore in less than five seconds, unlike anything you've ever seen on the Junior team. If there's even a single misstep, the mission won't be the only thing in jeopardy. We'll be keeping an eye out, so call us again if things get hairy. And please… be careful.
[relieved then serious] Wolf!! Thank the gods you’re alright! The feed got cut when you were engaging the target. We'd already thought the worst...
Hard to say for sure, but her appearance and DNA profile checks out. We can't really ignore her use of the Matsuga, either. It's a Kusanagi bloodline technique, after all. Either we're dealing with a perfect clone created by those sickos… er, sorry, I mean our clients. Or we’ve all been lied to.
Christy is a 14-year-old Zelsh noble girl and a skilled markswoman currently attending her freshman year at Eden Academy, where she also serves as a member of The Order of Eve faction. Despite her large ego and short temper, she is kind and caring, especially towards her best friend and mentor, Kaname Fischer. Christy is fiercely protective of her friends and will chastise them if they act recklessly, with Amos often receiving the brunt of her wrath.
Note: If you know what a "tsundere" is, then you're all set.
