A Meeting in the Afterlife (Project Smiles of Insanity Main Theme)

Project Overview

This song will be the main theme of my big project, Smiles of Insanity. You can download a ZIP folder with all the files you will need here. It includes:

• full sheet music

• a temporary piano backing track

• four MIDI files, one of each individual part and a full demo with the voices and piano together, all for pitch reference

The deadline is less important than whether or not the roles are closed; I will continue to be looking for people until they are cast.

Also yes, this used to be somewhere else too, if you're wondering. Unfortunately, it seems that Casting Call Club has projects expire after a limited amount of time, as was the case with the previous casting call, so to keep it active, I had to create a new one. In fact, this may happen again with this casting call, so keep an eye out for that.

This part's range is from G3 to F5 (that's the G below middle C to F the octave above); however, this may be adjusted. Feel free to try a slightly different key if it suits you better to do so. Boy sopranos are welcome.

Stylistically, I'm looking sort of for a soft pop; some of the vocal nuances I would expect to hear from this kind of style are like use of breathy vocal timbre, use of soft onsets (sometimes) and other such effects.

If you can, sing the whole song but the most essential lines are listed below.

  • People who
    Have had nothing to do
    With anything we did
Will soon from life be rid,
    Despite involvement
    Inexistent,
    No resistance
Can be held against this chaos.

  • Rage is all I know.
I just want to continue without this woe.
    Won't you go away?
    Won't you go away?

  • Happy ever after is not free to anyone who asks,
But now we are alive again, even one will be a tricky task!

We spread our shares of ruinIn the spans of time that we each call our lives
And now that we returned again,
    Not a remnant will survive!

This part's range is from G2 to A♭4 (that's the G an octave below the G below middle C to the first A-flat above middle C). Subject to change, potentially. If your voice would love you for slightly shifting the key, it's encouraged.

Stylistically, I would like this to emulate a sort of soft pop style, particularly for this character whose voice tends to be kind of whispery (in a creepy way); so vocal nuances I would expect are like use of whispery breathiness, soft onsets, vocal fry, et cetera.

And hey, if you're a girl who can sing pretty diddly-darn low, that would also be a pretty cool! Nnnot quite sure how this could work, but slightly shifting the key could come in handy here? Regardless, I'd say to give it a go over...not...giving it a go!

If you can, please try singing the whole song, but the most important lines are listed here.

  • There is a single flaw
Of magnitude much higher than all.
    All are blind!
There's only me to answer the call!
    With successful numbing,
    An end to their suffering!

  • People who
    Have had nothing to do
    With anything we did
Will soon from life be rid
    Despite involvement

    Inexistent,
    No resistance
Can be held against this chaos.

  • Oh, hap'ly ever after is not free for anyone who asks,
But now that I'm alive again, finding my own is a simple task!
We've spread our shares of ruin
In the spans of time that we each call our lives
And now that we've returned again,
    Not a remnant will survive!
