A Legend of Zelda audiobook Project- Episode 1- A Breath of the Wild Short Story- Narrator needed
Project Overview
If you are a fanfiction addict, and you love audiobooks, then this is the production for you!
This project will showcase some of the Legend of Zelda fanfiction found on fanfiction.net, specifically One-shots written by esteemed fanfic writer Selphie Kinneas. Any further titles will depend on the authors' approval. I have decided to split this into individual casting calls, since I've had a lot of trouble creating casting calls for audiobook projects, so if your audition is not selected, keep an eye out on the next episode.
So far the titles included are:

Any other suggestions you'd like to see here? You can post them in the comments, and provided they are clean stories- and I don't mean it can't contain gore- I'll check them out. However, I will not do an audio production of a fanfic without the author's permission.
Cast members will be required to narrate their character's scenes, so when you audition make sure you read the entire excerpt, not just the dialogue. Each role has three excerpts to choose from (if you're super keen, you can do all three).
If you want to see what I'm looking for in auditions you can check out my YouTube channel DragonRand100 Audiobooks, you'll find a link to it below.
Rules
1. Use a clear voice, varying your pitch and tone according to what is happening in the story.
2. Ensure that pets and other distractions are not going to interfere with the recording.
3. Avoid mouth noises i.e. clicks or anything that sounds like your chewing gum. I've seen it in professionally made audiobooks- thanks, Audible- and it's the worst.
4. Record somewhere quiet to minimize background noise. A decent recording mic will help with this, and knowing how to use noise reduction effects in sound editing programs such as Audacity will also be useful.
5. Use a decent mic. I hate to be strict on this one, but I also hate having to reject people because there are loud popping and crackling noises in their recording or the speaker is inaudible, so please avoid this.
6. Edit out any mistakes and edit any major issues with your audio. It's a tedious process, I know. The odd mistake is okay, but the more you can edit these out the better. I find the easiest way to deal with these is to stop the recording when you make a mistake, cut the last bit of audio to remove the error, and then redo that bit of the recording. It's tedious, I know, but it makes for a better recording.
7. Please meet your deadlines: Generally, I try to give VAs 2-4 weeks to submit their scenes. 2 if it's a really short scene (~ 500 words) and up to a month if it's longer. If I do not receive your narration after a month, and you have not responded to my attempts to contact you, I will re-open the role for auditions.
8. Not so much a rule, but just a recommendation. If your profile is complete, I will be more likely to cast you, as I will be checking them out when selecting people.
9. The most important rule of all- Have fun! This is meant to be a bit of fun and at the very least a bit of practice for any budding VAs.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the final project?
- Each individual story is between 1, 000 to 3, 000 words.. I've had people say all of them in the past, without realising how much work's involved. At the moment, you're looking at 5-20 minutes of audio depending on the story, so doing every chapter won't be realistic for anyone with a lot of other commitments.
Is it multiple episodes/chapters?
Multiple episodes. Have a look to see which episodes you'd like to narrate, and if your audition doesn't get picked, you're more than welcome to have another go.
How fast do you require actors turnaround time to be?
2-4 weeks
When will I know if my audition is accepted?
You will know by the deadline, or within a few days of the deadline (see the project details). I will also send you a link to the project's Discord server.
How the heck do I pronounce that character's name?
There is a thread on the project's Discord page for this. If you're having trouble, tell me what names you're stuck on, and I will send you an audio recording of the names via Discord. I will also pin them to the thread, so they're easy to find.
How am I supposed to record so much without my voice dying?
I recommend doing 10 mins a day or week, whichever suits you, depending on your schedule.
7. Which parts do I read?
As the narrator, you will be reading everything in the story. This will mean doing multiple character voices (most of these stories only have 2-3 characters). For short stories featuring Link and one of his many lady companions, this will mean doing both voices.
Submission (for cast members)
1. Upload will be via this website or Google Drive (I prefer the latter). You'll be given access to the dropbox via Discord (so make sure you accept the invitation, and let me know if there's a problem).
When you are logged in, you can comment, add submissions, create projects, upvote, search open roles, and way more. Login here.

Thank you to all of you who submitted an audition. It a difficult choice, but if your audition didn't get selected, you're welcome to try auditioning for the next episode- the casting call for Saria's Song is now live.
A short story written in Zelda's Point of View, featuring one of the memories of Breath of the WIld- specially the one where the king decides to be a delightful father figure (how I would loved to have seen some resolution between the two of them, but that wasn't to be).
Do not read any lines that are in brackets.
Have fun!
Her father [King Hyrule] had scolded her in front of him. He'd knelt silently behind her and pretended he didn't hear it when it was through. He didn't utter a word about it, for which she was grateful, but she wouldn't dare tell him either.
"See that mountain?"
Her voice cut through the silence heavy on the air after what felt like decades. He took a step towards her.
"That's Mt Lanayru," her voice was small, the wind carrying it away, "It takes its name from the Goddess of Wisdom."
[Needs to sound similar to the game's dialogue, but make sure you switch to your narrators voice when Zelda (or any other character) isn't speaking]
