Fernie

We’re all here today to remember Fernie.

If Fernie could see all of us gathered here, they’d probably have something funny to say about it. Maybe they’d ask why everyone is dressed so nicely, or wonder why nobody brought snacks. That’s the kind of person Fernie was—they had a way of making people smile, even during the toughest moments.

Fernie wasn’t perfect, and I think they’d be the first to admit that. They made mistakes, forgot things, and probably had a few stories they’d rather we didn’t tell today. But that’s what made them real. That’s what made them unforgettable.

One of the greatest gifts Fernie gave us was laughter. Whether it was a joke, a goofy comment, or accidentally doing something ridiculous, they reminded us not to take life too seriously. And honestly, I think they’d be disappointed if we spent today only crying.

So yes, let’s be sad. Let’s miss them. But let’s also laugh about the weird things they did, the funny memories we shared, and the moments that still make us smile. That’s how we keep a part of Fernie with us.

Fernie may be gone, but the stories about them definitely aren’t. I have a feeling we’ll still be saying, “Remember when Fernie…” for years to come.

So here’s to Fernie: thank you for the laughs, the memories, and for being exactly who you were. You made our lives brighter, and while we’ll miss you terribly… I hope wherever you are, you’re still making everyone around you laugh.

Rest in peace, Fernie. We’ll miss you—but we’ll never forget you.
