About Hendoger

“I’m Henry George, a lifelong voice acting enthusiast passionate about bringing stories and characters to life with energy and authenticity.” My approach to world creation is deeply rooted in the study of language as a vessel of cultural memory and mythic imagination. Through an academic and creative engagement with both Japanese language and folklore and the fantastical motifs of Old English traditions, I have come to see the process of worldbuilding not merely as an act of invention, but as a dialogue between history, narrative, and identity.

The Japanese language, with its layers of formality, ambiguity, and seasonal nuance, teaches a kind of subtlety in structure. Its grammatical architecture often prioritizes implication over declaration, and this quality profoundly influences the way I construct narrative worlds — favouring environments and characters that reveal themselves slowly, through gesture, omission, and atmosphere. Furthermore, Japanese folklore, populated by yōkai, kami, and liminal spaces, has taught me that the supernatural is not a rupture in the everyday, but a constant undercurrent — a worldview where spirits live in thresholds and morality is often situational, ambiguous, or deeply contextual.

In contrast, my study of Old English and early medieval fantasy offers a starker, more fate-bound cosmology. Texts like Beowulf or the gnomic poems found in the Exeter Book frame their worlds as harsh, heroic, and deeply aware of the passage of time. These narratives emphasize the epic weight of language — kennings, riddles, and names that carry mythic power. This tradition informs my sense of how to create resonance in worldbuilding through etymology, poetic economy, and a sense of fatalism that sits under the surface of seemingly mundane decisions.

Together, these fields of study provide two contrasting but complementary lenses:

  • One sees the world as inhabited by spirits and subtle boundaries, where meaning is implicit and relational;

  • The other as a heroic, elemental space, shaped by spoken word, honor, and the inevitability of decay.

The fusion of these perspectives allows me to craft worlds that are layered in texture, ethically complex, and linguistically alive. I do not treat magic, myth, or history as external forces to be added to a setting, but as intrinsic properties of the languages spoken within them. In this way, language is not just a tool of communication, but a structuring force of reality — capable of shaping how people in these worlds think, remember, and even dream.

In essence, world creation, for me, is not the art of escape, but of reconnection — an attempt to understand how deeply our stories, rituals, and words are rooted in the landscapes of the past and the uncertainties of the future.
