Types and Key Components of Quantitative Research Method
Methods that are used by researchers to collect data and analyze it are called the research methods. Depending upon the techniques used for data collection, and analysis, a research method is divided into numerous subtypes. Research methodology is a very significant and integral part of any research and educational degree, hence students as well as professional researchers need to be aware of the various types of research methods.
Depending upon the type of data research method is categorized as quantitative vs qualitative, primary vs secondary, and experimental vs descriptive. Similarly, the analysis of data collected through research is also either qualitative or quantitative. An essay writer can provide both forms of analysis given the data depending upon the requirements of a certain research design.
When collecting the data and analyzing them, the qualitative research approach is based on data in the form of words and denotations, whereas the quantitative data is in the form of statistics or numbers. Common examples of quantitative data forms include graphs, pie charts, etc. whereas qualitative data is in the form of answers to an interview, surveys, etc.
A good researcher is not only a good essay writer but also knows different types of research designs and methodologies and is capable of using them in his or her research. Quantitative research being one of the important and commonly used research designs will be explained thoroughly in this article.
Quantitative research is an approach used in research methodology that comprises the process of gathering and examining numerical or statistical data. The data acquired and analyzed in quantitative research is used to make assumptions, predictions, generalize results, and develop overall patterns for larger populations based on the results of the sample data. This form of research methodology is generally employed in the fields of social and natural sciences for instance chemistry, economics, biology, psychology, marketing, sociology, etc. given below are the types and components of the quantitative research method that will help any student struggling and longing for the help to write my essay for me.
Types of quantitative research methods
Quantitative research methodology is used for four types of research. These types include causal-comparative research methodology, experimental research methodology, correlational research methodology, and descriptive research methodology. In both experimental research and causal-comparative research, the researcher analyzes and examines whether there is some cause-effect relationship between variables.
However, there are some key differences in them that divide them into two separate categories. In descriptive research, the researchers seek a general description of how variables perform under certain conditions. Lastly, in correlational research, any sort of relationship that may exist between research variables is determined using a quantitative approach.
Experimental Research
A type of quantitative research that firmly abides by the principles of scientific research is classified as experimental quantitative research. Experimental research is a process consisting of the steps of collecting quantitative data and then analyzing it using statistical models.
Experimental research is the most familiar quantitative research form as it quite resembles the simple experiments constructions that are conducted in high schools and colleges. It consists of forming a hypothesis, manipulating a variable under a controlled environment, and then checking the hypothesis against the results obtained. At the end of the experimental research, the hypothesis is either rejected or formed into scientific fact.
Causal-Comparative Research
This is the type of quantitative research method in which the researcher aims to find the relationship between a dependent and an independent variable under the experimental conditions after the event has occurred. As the name suggests this method compares dependent variables with independent ones and also is carried out after the event and hence causal.
The main purpose of this type of research is to find out how an independent variable alters or influences a dependent variable. The main characteristic of this type is that the independent variable is not manipulated by the researcher and only its impact is studied over the variable of interest (dependent variable). This is a form of quantitative research as data in this research type is quantitative too.
Descriptive Research
Descriptive research is another type of quantitative research method. This type of research is based on collecting measurable information of the data of interest that is then analyzed statistically. It is a standard tool in market research as it allows collecting and describing the nature of a demographic section.
In this form of research, a variable is identified, and then an experiment is conducted to provide methodical information about the phenomena that is based on the identified variable. In other words, this type of research describes the features of a populace or fact under study.
Correlational Research
Correlational research is carried out to find out the exact relationship between two variables or quantities that are closely linked together. In other words, a correlational experiment or research is the one that quantifies the closely-knit or naturally occurring relationship between two variables or sets of variables.
Mathematical analysis is used to develop the relationships between such variables or sets of variables and the results of the analysis are then translated into correlation formed between the variables.
Key Components of Quantitative Research Method
Quantitative research is all about theories and manipulations. Hence the basic elements of quantitative research include theories, hypotheses formation, design of research, operationalizing the concepts, selecting the site of research, collecting the data, processing the data, analyzing the data, forming conclusions, and then publishing the experimental results.
The process of quantitative research starts with an explanation of the theory on which research is based, followed by the development of a hypothesis. Then the research design is selected which may be either of the four types discussed above and selecting a research site. The next step involves formulating which measures will be used to investigate the data, trailed by collecting, processing, and analyzing the data. In the end, findings of the research are reported and conclusions based on the results are drawn which may either support the hypothesis or reject it.
