One of the Eight Legends who drove out the dragons in The Scouring, he is known as a Living Legend. He met Nergal wandering the Nabata desert and their shared desire for truth and knowledge made them fast friends. Together they created Arcadia, a sanctuary for the surviving dragons and men to live in peace. He wished to expand this paradise, but Nergal had been seduced by dark magic and the two ended up facing off and Athos deformed his right eye and left the scar across his forehead. He meets Eliwood a few times and offers advice and help before assisting them in the final battle.
