Rutger is half Sacaen and half Bern. When Bern’s forces invaded Sacae, Rutger was the only one spared because Bern's forces mistook Rutger for one of them due to the appearance of his mixed blood. This massacre marked him deeply, and he became a man obsessed with revenge and no other way to live. Despite this, he is shown to have a softer side deep down in his supports with Dieck and Clarine. He is also the only character in pre-3DS Fire Emblem that can achieve over 100% critical hit if he has A support with Dieck and Clarine. (*insert sasuke choking meme*)
