The name “Jack Kawamugi” has been on the papers since year one of his school experience, making small ledgers of recent events for his elementary school class. He only rose to prominence in middle school, but his rise was a rapid one. He became a national curiosity briefly when he became the editor-in-chief of his school’s newspaper only three months into his first year there, and decided to turn the paper into a for-profit club to market to the school’s surrounding community. The interesting decision was spread about national news for a few weeks, mainly focusing on the success of the endeavor and how the student reporters liked to be covering not only school news, but local news as well. However, even this moderate success would seem flat compared to Jack’s next step.

About halfway through his second year of Junior High, he was contacted by a very real newspaper, the Togawa Minpo (Togawa Public Journal), with an offer to serve as its own chief editor. The paper had fallen on hard times and was desperate, desperate enough to draft a schoolboy who had been in the news. To the surprise of many, Jack was able to completely reverse the paper’s fortunes, through a firm print-exclusive doctrine and a commitment to only reporting facts, with no opinion bias at all, which gave the paper a unique quality not present in other publications. His success story reached national and international news, and brought Hope’s Peak’s interest onto him as a candidate for their next class.
