Regarded perhaps most famously for her stellar Dance of a Thousand Fireflies, Hotaru Azamaku is an often discussed name on the scene of magic acts. Rivaling the promise of Cyril Takayama or even David Copperfield at such a young age, Hotaru’s promise is limitless— going beyond the usual sleight of hand and parlor tricks and branching into a whole new brand of illusionism. Though no one knows how she does it, she’s done tricks where she’s turned her hand into a flock of butterflies and back again, illusions where she could make her whole being appear monochrome, and, most well known, summoning a thousand Fireflies with only the snap of her fingers and the motions of her feet. If you’re interested in a show that makes you question the limitations of reality, the Violet Firefly’s performance is one of the best you can watch.
