Joaquín is an ex olympic athlete for the Spanish judo team in some late ‘90s/early 00s olympic games. This made him both somewhat of a celebrity and busy enough that he never had time for his daughter or his wife, occupied as he was training or traveling from one place to another.  He's what he would like to think of as a TRUE MAN, SOMEONE TRULY MANLY, AND TRULY STRONG! AN IBERIAN MACHO LIKE NO OTHER! There’s no martial art he hasn’t practiced! There’s no problem he can’t headbutt!

...But that was before. Now he’s retired and he's mostly a somewhat awkward father that tries to figure out how to couple his perceptions of reality and what measure is toxic masculinity with being endlessly supportive towards his only child, Avy, in whatever she tries to do. Being a lesbian, for example. That's one point where he can relate to her at least.
