RWBY Fanfiction Audiobook -- "Forlorn."
cassmtz for Yang Xiao Long (Lead Female)
Yang is an extroverted, outgoing, and laid-back kind of person. She loves making puns and she's a very caring friend. She's always game for the next adventure and knows how to defend herself, as her father taught her a brawling form of martial arts. Despite the carefree facade, though, Yang deals with abandonment issues because of her biological mother leaving shortly after Yang's birth, her step-mother dying when she was young, and her dad shutting down after these events and not properly caring for his two daughters. She's training to become a huntress, fight the creatures of Grimm, and travel the world while doing so -- most likely in the hopes of finding closure. Otherwise, Yang has centered most of her life over taking care of her little sister, Ruby. She considers Blake Belladonna her best friend, and in Forlorn, accepts to date Blake because she wants to learn to love her romantically. Yang's vocal inflections will always sound pretty upbeat, but she will need to go through a range of emotions where 'upbeat' should not exist. Her character will require a bit more of young woman's crystalline kind of voice.
Chapter 2: [Backpedaling. Awkward.] "No, no, no! God, no. It's just that...well, I've decided to date her. Sorta."
Chapter 2: [Conversational.] "I mean, I'm not totally dumb about this. I know strong emotions incite actions. You can't honestly tell me you don't struggle with any urges to show your affection. [Pause. Thoughtful. Smiling at the end.] I'm not saying, like, kissing and stuff. But, you know, any holding or cuddling you feel like doing. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you like my 'scent,' so...smelling is purrfectly acceptable, too."
Chapter 4: [Jovial, friendly.] "So, Blake is the best tactical knife thrower ever, just so you guys know. Also, something smells heavenly and I'm starved. It's gotta be lunch time by now. Should we grab a bite?"
Chapter 5: [Kind of upset, trying to make a point.] "When I said I would try to reciprocate your feelings, I meant it. Every word. And ever since we agreed to become a couple, I have been putting every effort I could spare into loving you as more than a friend. If I could just make you smile, if I could just satisfy you want for my affection, if I could just help you chase the darkness...if I could just make you happy. [Pause. Conflicted between hurt and frustration.] Except there's a problem. I can't do it on my own. Literally zero relationships last if there's only one person trying. And, Blake? I have been in that kind of situation before, and it's exhausting. I have this tendency to give all of myself -- no hesitation, all or nothing -- and you know what? Most of the time, I'm happy that way because it's rewarding. I mean, you know that motto -- treat people the way you want to be treated, and they tend to do exactly that. There's the ones that just don't, obviously, like out of spite or something -- can't stand the cute happy-go-luckies, and the joke's on them. Others don't care enough, or once they've bled you dry, they leave you there like you never mattered in the first place. [...]"
Chapter 7: [In the middle of combat. Screaming in fury.] "Don't you dare leave! Arrrghhh! Get out of my way!"
Chapter 8: [Losing patience, growing upset.] "Hurt Ruby, or abandon me? Did you even know her, dad? Because the number of crimes she's committed are accumulating, and you're still here, shaking your head like you can't believe it. But maybe it's totally believable that --" [Yang gets interrupted.]
Chapter 9: [Mumbling, drowsy and falling asleep.] "Your skin cream smells nice. Sorta like...that soap there? ...Clean..."
Chapter 10: [Monologuing to herself for Blake's benefit, casual and vaguely joking.] "I think the locked door was a giveaway. [Hum briefly] Or maybe it was the empty cafeteria. Or maybe -- and get this -- it was stepping out of our dorm after curfew."
Chapter 11: [Crying. Choked sound.] "Ruby isn't going to... [Voice thick with emotion and breaking.] She isn't going to wake up, is she?"
