Couldn't you cut the petal into pieces so it could fit into the kettle? Can't you just cut it up with a knife or something and save the rest for later, or do you not know of plastic bags? Or any form of saving food for later? Why don't you cut off a corner? Yeah, because RIPPING THE PETAL OFF isn't damaging it. Cutting it shouldn't be a problem.
