In the original, Naomi is a brief and relatively unimportant character. She’s fairly quiet and doesn’t say much, apart from expressing her gratitude towards Hiro for naming her, and expressing her regrets being assigned with a partner she was incompatible with. She was overall well liked and missed when she is forced to go away. She does not die in the original.

In the abridged, Naomi is Hiro’s driving force for being interested in Zero Two. Hiro is told that Naomi died in the accident that takes place in episode 1. She is currently planned to die in this episode but may come back in the last few episodes of the series. Naomi hates Hiro, and blames him for her lack of success, believing that she deserved a more competent partner. Before her death, she metaphorically commits suicide, and says goodbye to Hiro, her feelings conflicted and her psyche confused. You must be comfortable performing a heavy role.

Vocal Qualities:

  • A teenage female voice.

  • Mid to high pitch.

  • Realistic crying/sobbing.

  • Line 1: “SHUT UP.”

Context: Naomi is sick of Hiro not taking anything seriously and making random noises. She is off screen for this.

  • Line 2: “You never take anything seriously.. You’re always making weird noises or talking about what birds you want to eat. You never give anything that matters your full attention, every time I see you I feel like I’m going to drown in your stupidity. It’s just not FAIR!”

Context: Naomi breaks at Hiro’s antics, and goes off on him, the intensity ramps up.

  • Line 3: “Nothing’s ever worked out for me and it’s all your fault…” (sobbing) “It’s like no one even cares about me. I feel like I could just disappear right now and nothing would even change...”

Context: Continuation of the last line, while still escalating in intensity.
