Karel is depicted as callous, detached, and perhaps crazed. Karel himself is aware of his temperament, and when asked why he acts this way, he says that both he and his sword crave blood. He is driven to be the best swordsman, ruthlessly cutting down all those who he deems as rivals, including friends and family.

Karel's voice should sound deep and driven. He should have an unnerving quality to his voice, sounding as if he is bloodthirsty.
