Fluttershy is one of Twilight Sparkle’s recurring friends after Twilight moves to Ponyville.

She is gentle, shy, compassionate, observant, and deeply knowledgeable about animals and their behavior.

Fluttershy initially becomes close with Spike because of her interest in dragons and animal care. Her friendship with Twilight develops more gradually, largely through quiet visits, tea, and conversations where Fluttershy’s patience contrasts strongly with Twilight’s need to analyze and explain everything.

Fluttershy is soft-spoken, but she is not weak or helpless. When an animal or friend is in danger, her uncertainty can disappear very quickly. She is capable of becoming focused, firm, and authoritative without suddenly turning into a completely different character.

She is also unusually comfortable with uncertainty. Where Twilight desperately wants answers, Fluttershy can sometimes simply accept that something is unknown, which makes her a surprisingly grounding presence.

A canon-inspired Fluttershy voice is welcome, but an exact Andrea Libman impression is not required. Natural warmth, sincerity, clear diction, and emotional subtlety are more important than imitation. Fluttershy should have a soft, warm, youthful feminine voice, generally in a mid-to-higher register.

Her delivery is gentle and sometimes hesitant, particularly around ponies she does not know well.

She may pause, stumble slightly over words, or become flustered, but please avoid making every sentence breathy, whispered, or painfully slow.

Fluttershy should still be completely understandable at normal listening volume.

When she becomes comfortable, her voice should loosen considerably. Around Spike, animals, or close friends, she can sound warmer, more conversational, and even quietly playful.

During emergencies, the softness remains, but the hesitation disappears. Fluttershy can become surprisingly direct when she knows what needs to be done.

Performers are welcome to audition for another Mane Five role as well. One performer may potentially portray two recurring characters if the voices are sufficiently distinct.

Recording quality is especially important for this role. Because Fluttershy often speaks quietly, the microphone and recording environment need to capture a soft performance clearly without excessive noise or room echo.

The sides they read from:
  • “Oh! And you too. I’m sorry. I mean—I heard there was a new librarian. Not that I was asking about you. I mean, I wasn’t not asking, I just—” Direction: Fluttershy has just realized she accidentally greeted Spike while almost forgetting Twilight was standing there. Nervous and embarrassed, but not cartoonishly terrified.

  • “She sounds fun.” Direction: Twilight has been talking about Sunset. Fluttershy realizes this person meant a great deal to her. Very soft and sincere. No pity—just warmth.

  • “I know. Back up.” Direction: Rainbow has been injured. Fluttershy is frightened—her voice may shake—but she knows Twilight is too close and needs her to move. This is not angry Fluttershy. This is Fluttershy taking control because somebody is hurt.
