Are You Watching? - MLP AU Audio Drama
Lena for Twilight Sparkle - Lead Role/Narrator
Twilight Sparkle - Lead Role/Narrator
Twilight Sparkle is the lead character and primary narrator of Are You Watching?.
The story begins with Twilight at six years old and follows her as she grows through childhood, adolescence, and eventually adulthood. I am looking for one performer who can grow the voice naturally with her over the course of the series, rather than casting separate actors for each age.
The same actress will perform both Twilight’s spoken dialogue and her first-person internal narration. Her narration is not an older Twilight looking back on events; it should feel like Twilight’s thoughts happening in the moment.
Twilight is exceptionally intelligent, curious, literal-minded, intense, loving, stubborn, and frequently unintentionally funny. As the story progresses, however, the role becomes considerably more dramatic and emotionally demanding. The performer should be comfortable with comedy, quiet narration, wonder, frustration, anger, vulnerability, crying, and heavier emotional scenes.
A canon-inspired Twilight voice is welcome, but an exact Tara Strong impression is not required. Acting ability and capturing Twilight’s personality are much more important than perfect imitation.
For young Twilight, please avoid an exaggerated or artificially high “little kid” voice. She should sound young, but natural and intelligent.
Recording quality is very important for this project. Please audition using the microphone/setup you would realistically use for production. Audio should be clean, with minimal background noise or room echo, no clipping/distortion, and little to no heavy processing. A good USB microphone is perfectly acceptable. If cast, final recordings will preferably be delivered as clean WAV files.
This is a long-term recurring role and will have substantially more dialogue than most other characters because Twilight is both protagonist and narrator.

“Does she have to calculate where it’s supposed to go? Because if she puts it in the wrong place, would summer happen differently?” Direction: Six-year-old Twilight. Completely sincere, rapid curiosity. She is not trying to be funny.
“At thirteen, I had waited for it. At fourteen, I had tried not to. At fifteen, I had become better at trying. At sixteen… I had work in the morning. That was usually enough.” Direction: Older and much more controlled than the child voice. She is deliberately suppressing something painful rather than openly showing it. The book explicitly tracks that emotional progression through thirteen, fourteen, fifteen and sixteen.
“I was twelve. I was twelve. I was trying to help you! I thought you were alone! I thought that was why you needed me, why I had to be better, why I had to understand—because you were alone! But I was alone too! You expected me to understand all of that when I was twelve years old. I WAS A CHILD!” Adult Twilight, confronting Celestia after years of buried resentment. Do not begin at full volume. Start stunned and hurt, almost unable to believe what she is hearing. Let the anger build as Twilight realizes how unfairly much was expected of her as a child. By the final sentence, restraint is gone. The emotion underneath the anger should be grief and betrayal, not simply rage.
