3D Environment & Prop Artist

The 3D Environment & Prop Artist will be responsible for creating the locations, structures, objects, and environmental assets that make up the world of The Expressionists.

This role focuses on building production-ready environments and props that support both the visual identity of the series and the practical needs of animation, lighting, VFX, and cinematography.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Modeling interior and exterior environments

  • Creating buildings, rooms, streets, facilities, and other locations

  • Modeling props, furniture, equipment, weapons, vehicles, and environmental objects

  • UV unwrapping and preparing assets for texturing

  • Basic texturing and material setup

  • Translating concept art, references, and written descriptions into consistent 3D environments

  • Building modular environment pieces that can be reused across scenes

  • Creating assets at appropriate levels of detail for production

  • Optimizing models and environments for practical use in animation and rendering

  • Preparing environments for lighting, VFX, and camera work

  • Making revisions based on feedback from the Lead 3D Artist and Creator/Showrunner

  • Maintaining consistent scale, style, and visual quality across assets

  • Working with animators and VFX artists when environments need to interact with characters or Expressions

  • Preparing props and environmental objects that may need to be animated, damaged, destroyed, or otherwise manipulated during scenes

The Expressionists takes place in a world that has been heavily shaped by the existence of Expressionists, meaning environments should feel grounded while still reflecting the technology, institutions, and culture that have developed around them.

Artists may work on locations ranging from ordinary dorm rooms, classrooms, streets, and homes to large-scale hero facilities, training areas, corporate environments, laboratories, damaged cities, and other major story locations.

Props may range from everyday objects to specialized technology, Expression monitoring equipment, hero equipment, vehicles, weapons, and other assets unique to the setting.

The Expressionists is aiming for a stylized cinematic 3D look rather than strict photorealism. Applicants should be comfortable creating environments and props that feel believable and detailed while remaining visually consistent with the rest of the production.

Experience with modular environment design, optimization, UV mapping, basic materials, and production-ready asset creation is strongly preferred.

This role will work closely with the Lead 3D Artist, texture/material artists, animators, lighting artists, VFX artists, and other members of the 3D department.
