Sound Designer / Foley Artist

The Sound Designer / Foley Artist will be responsible for creating and shaping the sound effects that give The Expressionists its physical impact, atmosphere, and identity.

This role will work across combat, environments, technology, character movement, and especially Expressions. The goal is for abilities to feel distinct not only visually, but sonically, with recognizable sound language that reinforces how each power works.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Creating and editing sound effects for Expressions

  • Developing unique sound identities for recurring abilities

  • Designing impacts, hits, explosions, debris, destruction, and environmental damage

  • Creating sounds for fire, electricity, water, energy, concrete, and other physical or supernatural effects

  • Designing Aether-related sounds

  • Creating the sound language for Breaking events

  • Recording or creating Foley for footsteps, clothing, movement, object handling, and physical interaction

  • Building environmental ambience for interiors, streets, facilities, training areas, and other locations

  • Designing sounds for technology, equipment, vehicles, and Expression-monitoring systems

  • Editing and layering multiple sound elements into cohesive effects

  • Synchronizing sound effects with animation, combat, and VFX

  • Creating variations of commonly reused sounds to avoid repetition

  • Organizing and maintaining a reusable sound library for the production

  • Cleaning and preparing recorded Foley or field audio when needed

  • Making revisions based on feedback from the Creator/Showrunner

  • Working with the Audio Mixing / Mastering team to prepare effects for final mixes

Sound will be a major part of how Expressions are communicated to the audience.

Abilities should not all rely on the same generic energy sounds. Their sound should reflect their behavior.

Density manipulation should communicate increased weight, pressure, and impact. Electricity should feel sharp and unstable. Water should carry mass and movement. Concrete should grind, fracture, crack, and shift in a way that feels physically grounded.

Breaking should have its own recognizable sound language and should feel noticeably different from normal Expression use.

The Sound Designer will have room to experiment and help establish these recurring auditory rules alongside the visual effects team.

The role also includes quieter sound work. Footsteps, room tone, clothing movement, doors, objects, distant traffic, machinery, and other environmental details will be important for making scenes feel complete and lived in.

Applicants should have experience or familiarity with:

  • Sound design

  • Foley

  • Audio editing

  • Layering and processing sound effects

  • Impact design

  • Environmental ambience

  • Creature or supernatural sound design

  • Sci-fi sound design

  • Field recording

  • Audio cleanup

  • Synchronizing sound to picture

  • Building reusable sound libraries

Applicants should provide a demo reel or examples of previous sound design work where possible. Action scenes, ability effects, Foley work, environmental soundscapes, cinematic sound redesigns, or similar examples are especially useful.

This role will work closely with the VFX / Expression Effects Artists, Animators, Composer, Audio Mixing / Mastering team, and Creator/Showrunner.
