Lead Writer

The Lead Writer will work closely with the Creator/Showrunner to help turn the existing story, characters, worldbuilding, and long-term series outline into finished episode scripts.
This is someone I would prefer to have a portfolio from.

The Expressionists already has an established setting, power system, main cast, major character arcs, long-term plot direction, and key story events. This position is therefore focused less on creating the series from scratch and more on helping shape that material into strong, well-paced scripts that work for animation.

Responsibilities may include:

• Writing and revising episode scripts

• Developing dialogue that feels natural and distinct to each character

• Helping structure scenes, episodes, and story arcs

• Improving pacing, emotional beats, tension, and character interactions

• Working from existing outlines, notes, and story direction

• Collaborating with the Creator/Showrunner on revisions

• Helping maintain continuity across episodes

• Reviewing work from additional writers and script editors when needed

• Adapting scenes with animation, production scope, and visual storytelling in mind

The Lead Writer should be comfortable working within an established canon while still bringing their own ideas, perspective, and writing instincts to the project. Creative input is encouraged, but major changes to established characters, lore, or long-term story direction will remain subject to approval by the Creator/Showrunner.

We are especially interested in writers who are comfortable balancing character-driven drama with action, humor, darker subject matter, mystery, and long-term serialized storytelling.

Experience writing screenplays, animated projects, comics, games, or other serialized fiction is preferred, but a strong writing sample and clear understanding of character voice may be considered in place of professional experience.

Because this is a long-term collaborative project, communication and reliability are extremely important. The Lead Writer should be comfortable receiving feedback, participating in revisions, discussing story decisions, and working closely with other members of the production team.
