Having been in countless battles, Waldstein enjoys fighting skilled opponents and is always prepared to accept a challenge. However, he appears to be rather absent-minded as he openly stated to Gordeau that he was serving as a distraction while Linne and Hyde were heading to Paradox and wasn't aware of the implications of doing so until Gordeau explained it to him.
Despite Waldstein's hunger for battle, he has a softer and compassionate side to him, especially towards Linne. He is extremely loyal to her, following her orders without question and worrying about her well-being. He also spares Hilda's life to "return the favour" for sparing Linne's.
(slightly annoyed tone) "What in the hell are you talking about, kid? This flesh is human and I speak the language of the land."(serious and threatening tone) " Listen, little sprout, you best learn how to properly address your elders. Or should I remove you from this ground and through you into the heavens?"
(angry tone) "Why, you…! If you have something to say, just spit it out already!" (serious tone) "But in the end, a battle is just a test of strength. Isn’t that why you’ve come into the ‘Night’?"
(confused, to a serious tone) "Hm? I’m not sure what you were trying to get at, but there WAS one thing you said that got my attention. Something about defeating me…" (happy, cocky tone) "Now THAT I’d like to see!"
(soft chuckle) “Hehehehe...”
