A corrupt CEO in charge of Luthorcorp, Lex Luthor holds an immense grudge for the Kryptonian known as Superman. After one of his employees discovers a cavern filled with Kryptonite, Luthor would analyze it and discover that Superman is vulnerable to it, and that it worked as a suitable source of energy for machinery. With it, he'd begin a project known as Metallo, a new "efficient" protector of Metropolis to sweep Superman under the rug, uncaring of what his efforts will bring to the city.
