There is a real animal with the official scientific name “vampire squid from hell”.

A scientist actually wrote that down... submitted it... and every other scientist looked at it and said, "Yep. That's the name."

But there’s just one small problem. 

It's not a vampire. Not from hell. And it isn’t even a squid.

So how does a name like that ever become official?

For hundreds of years, sailors kept reeling in the most terrifying thing they had ever laid eyes on. A massive silver ribbon, longer than their boat, with a red crest on its head and a paper-thin body that rippled through the water. Nobody could say what it was.
