Blackwood Tales
Tarrah Adam for Grandmother Blackwood
The matriarch of the Blackwood family and the woman responsible for raising Ortaiga, Lyra, and Doren after the loss of their parents. A healer, herbalist, and survivor of countless hardships, she taught the siblings many of the skills that continue to define them — from medicine and wilderness survival to resilience in the face of suffering.
Though stern and deeply practical, her wisdom shaped the moral foundation of the Blackwood family. Much of the compassion, stubbornness, and protective nature seen in the siblings can be traced directly back to her influence.
Grandmother Blackwood should sound calm, patient, and deeply rooted in lived experience. Her voice carries quiet authority without needing force or volume. There is a steady warmth to her delivery, but it is not soft in a fragile sense—it is resilient, like something that has endured and continues to endure.
She speaks with intention and clarity, often pausing naturally as though allowing meaning to settle rather than rushing through it. When she corrects or guides, it should feel firm but nurturing, shaped by long practice rather than emotion alone.

Healing is not control. It is listening.
You cannot save everything. But you can choose what you refuse to lose.
Strength is not what you carry. It is what you endure without breaking.
Heya! Love the work you put into this. I I'd love to have you on board, but I think you may have gotten the wrong impression of Grandma Blackwood. She is old... yes, but not frail. The voice you were doing, though excellent, gives the impression of an older frail woman. Grandma blackwood is stern and resilient, the kind of grandmother that isn't afraid to wack you with a stick if she needs to.
Gotcha, thanks for the feedback - I will do another take & resubmit!
