ABOUT THE CHARACTER

A 24-year-old woman who masks her neurodivergence particularly well. She is interior, observant, dry. She is witty and unintentionally funny, never trying to be, which is what makes her land.

She has very specific interests that were never shared by anyone else around her. She has leaned hard into anhedonia due to several life events. She often leaves things unfinished and switches interests, but lately she's been losing interest in almost everything, leading a flat life.

She works a remote job she hates and lives at her childhood home with her father.

Her speech is usually measured, short sentences that may sound on the flatter end. She is extremely intelligent with unused potential. Her voice is deeper, but not super deep. She is steadfast when it comes to her principles. When she is witty, it is a clean dry observation with a turn at the end.

No modern slang. She should feel a little out-of-time, in the way Beth Harmon and Lee Harker do. (Notice how we didn't say outdated, she just feels out of time and place, like an alien to everyone around her)

She is bad at anger in a very specific way, most of it is targeted inwards. The kind of anger that makes her punch walls and scream and cry alone. But she is not weak. She has trouble standing up for herself until a certain boundary is pushed, at which point she will absolutely make what she thinks known.

And she is hurting. She carries years of suppressed trauma. She doesn't have the best relationship with her father, but knows deep down that he loves her.

She used to have dreams but they are dwindling, and she is becoming more and more unsure of what her life means. She is essentially cruising on autopilot.

VOICE REFERENCES - YES

• Beth Harmon - The Queen's Gambit (Anya Taylor-Joy): precision, interiority, controlled intensity that breaks privately. Though our main character is not quite as sure of herself as Beth.

• Lee Harker - Longlegs (Maika Monroe): observational presence, quiet intelligence. Though our main character is not quite as quiet, and not as socially anxious.

VOICE REFERENCES - NO

• Korra -The Legend of Korra: too brash, too action-hero.

• Chloe Price - Life is Strange: too outbursty, too angry, too impulsive/rash.

DIRECTION

Line 1: Main Character: "Noah, stop. Stop what you're doing right now. You're scaring me. You're gonna make me shoot you. Stop. STOP. Noah... I'll shoot. I'll fucking shoot if you don't stop."

Confrontation: Her flat baseline is shattered. She is terrified, but still somewhat capable of forming sentences. Tears constant, breath ragged, words coming through clearly enough to hear the threat. The second STOP is the loudest she has ever yelled in her life. The final "I'll fucking shoot" must be fully committed, if the threat sounds pulled, the line dies.

Line 2: Main Character: "I remember when Mom gave me this. ...A week before she... (trails off)"

The toy: Do not reach for the emotion. Let it find her. The memory ambushes a woman whose default state is numbness, which is exactly why it lands. The trail-off is the entire performance, she can't finish because finishing would make it real. The emotion lives in that silence at the end.

Line 3: Main Character: "Don't we keep batteries in the laundry room? ...Why would you take them out of the DVD remote? Then that one needs batteries too."

Dad: "When was the last time you used that damn DVD player?" "

Main Character: ...I don't know. Maybe I'll use it right now."

Banter with Dad: Dry, low-energy, the friction-as-affection of a thousand similar conversations. Real conversational rhythm sounds flat on the surface. Not bright or performed. The snark at the end is her refusing to let him have the point, this is where her snarky witty side comes out.
