Audition contexts

Scene 1: Navi meets Link and has trouble trying to wake him up.

Scene 2: Mido meets Navi and is amused when the sprite attempts to tell him to get out of Link's way.

Scene 3: Link, suspected of having kidnapped Ruto, is captured by the Zora who promptly knock him out. Navi attempts to chase after them, but is unable to avoid attracting the Zoras' attention.

  • His mind still clawing its way back to reality, and away from the terrors that plagued his dreams, Link moaned softly, the incessant screeching pounding through his  skull. He rolled over only to feel something smack the side of his ear.

With a flick of his hand, he slapped it.

There was a squeal and a loud indignant, "Ouch... how rude."

Half asleep, Link groaned as the persistent sprite tried to wake him up again.

"I am not moving until you wake up! This is urgent!" she exclaimed. "Can Hyrule's destiny really depend on such a lazy boy?"

  • There was a moment of stunned silence, and then Mido laughed. "Now this is the funniest thing I've heard all morning."

Abruptly, he slapped Navi, belting her aside as if she were a fly. She tumbled in the air and then caught herself before she could fall.

Saria's eyes bulged and Link gasped in shock.

Deliberately harming a fairy was taboo amongst the Kokiri. Even Mido was staring at Navi with a sheepish look of dismay as Fora quickly asked if she was okay.

    "You-" Link growled, stepping forward.

Saria grabbed him before he could move another foot. "Let me handle this."

She let go of him and poked a finger at Mido's chest. "Apologize, now!"

    "I didn't-"

"NOW!" Even Link took a step back when he heard Saria's fierce tone.

"Sorry," Mido squeaked, sounding like a mouse being trodden on. Navi regarded him with an icy glare.

  • Once again, Navi found herself unable to do anything except try to get the attention of the nearest Zora.

"Hey! Can't you see those bulblins back there? You're making a mistake. We're trying to-" A Zora tried to swat her, and she quickly darted out of the way.

I'm not some fly, Navi thought indignantly. She would not tolerate that level of disrespect from anyone!

    "Hey!" she yelled.

Navi noticed one of the Zora step towards her, their eyes intent as they reached up to scoop her in the bottle.

Navi quickly flew out of reach. There was no way anybody was putting her in a bottle.

"Hey, what should I do with the sprite?" her would-be-captor shouted over his shoulder.

Thank you for your audition. I’ll leave this role open up until at least the end of the year and let you know if you got the role. Good effort, a tiny bit on the quiet though.

Thanks, do you have any suggestions for things that I could change to make the audition better?

It’s a bit hard to give detailed feedback for a short clip, but I would recommend trying to make Navi’s voice sound distinct from the other characters, you could try using a different accent or something else. Also there’s a popping sound or click that occurs a couple of times that I’d recommend removing. What sort of of mic do you use?

Oh I was thinking it was Navi who was saying everything in the scene. I could totally do different voices for different characters. It was hard for me to try to do everything in the same voice. Also the clicking sound was me starting and stopping the recording on my computer. I know how to edit that sound out but since this was just an audition I didn't bother. Thanks for the feedback I will try again!

Ah, okay that makes sense. Don't worry too much about re-auditioning. I'll send you Navi's script so you can do a short sample. (Just do the first scene up to the first scene break (marked by ~ 0 ~).
