Macduff is the thane of Fife, and a contemporary of Macbeth. When Duncan is murdered and Macbeth becomes king, Macduff becomes suspicious. He skips Macbeth's coronation at Scone and goes home to Fife, and Macbeth notices his absence. Later Macduff travels to England to try and convince the exiled prince Malcolm to come back and fight for Scotland. While he is gone, Macbeth has his family murdered. Macduff returns with Malcolm and helps lead the charge on Macbeth's castle - to avenge his family and to overthrow the usurper.
