This is the younger version of Seto Kaiba. According to the original work, this was when he was somewhere around 10 - 12 years old. 

Seto has always been smarter and lot more mature than other people his age. He tends to be a bit reserved except around his baby brother, Mokuba. Since his parents had died leaving him and Mokuba alone, Seto has stepped in as his Mokuba's guardian and parent even though he was only a few years older. In many occasions, you'll see him step in to protect the little boy and won't stop at anything to make him happy.

His goal was to make sure they were both adopted into the same family so they don't get separated, so he decided to challenge a famous businessman to a chess under the condition that if he wins, the man would adopt them both. And guess what, that's exactly what happens.
