Okay so you know how Lauren is like a nerd but also has more to her that people don't really see when she's at school? Yeah, Matthew isn't that. He is as textbook nerd as you can get. Pocket protector, tape on glasses, bow tie, all of it. He thinks he's friends with Lauren when in reality, they're only lab partners, nothing more. So why does Lauren tolerate him so? Because honestly, she pities him. Not everyone's as lucky as she is to have good friends.

[To Lauren] Frankly Lauren, I don't understand why you associate yourself with beings of lesser intellect such as Connor Miller and Ruby Harrison. Why dumb yourself down to their neanderthalic level when you can accustom yourself to an extracurricular like say...math club? Multiplication Station just needs one more member after Rodney Willingham's departure. You could take his spot, just saying.
