Kori for Ebony Night
Name : Ebony Night
Age : 21
Gender : Demi-girl, She/They
Sexuality : Bisexual
Voice Type : I'm looking for a soft voice, medium, medium-high and high tones are all accepted for this character. Duchess of Night. However, after not dying when she was supposed to and fleeing Night..
Personality : Ebony is compassionate to a fault. She does not simply witness pain.. She absorbs it. Injustice unsettles, cruelty wounds her and she finds it hard to accept either. When something is unfair, silence on the matter feels like betrayal. Therefor.. Even when her voice shakes, she speaks. In unfamiliar spaces she finds herself anxious, soft-spoken, careful and observant. She studies a room before she moves in it. But her uncertainty never extends to her morals. Those are immovable. When authority conflicts with her sense of right and wrong, she does not bend easily.. Even when she knows the consequences. Continuing on, as Duchess, she ruled with unusual gentleness, believing power should protect rather than intimidate. Yet that same belief makes it difficult for her to accept others wielding authority without scrutiny. She struggles to submit to leadership she does not trust, not out of arrogance, but because she cannot ignore the possibility of harm. She is deeply empathetic and far more perceptive than most realize. She sees the cracks in people and rarely judges them for it. Her courage is not loud. It is a wavering voice in which still insists on speaking.
Position : Duchess of Night, though after fleeing.. She posed as a Candlebearer for Valiant.
Story : Ebony Night is the descendant of Keir and the current holder of the Element of Darkness, otherwise known as Duchess of Night. From childhood, she was taught that her life had an expiration date. Every gem bearer before her died the same year their ancestors had. She prepared for it quietly. She made peace with it. And then she did not die. The year passed. The day passed. The hour passed.. And.. She lived. What should have been a miracle became terror. The prophecy declared that when one descendant did not fall, the ancient evil would rise again. Whispers spread. Fear turned to suspicion. Suspicion turned to accusation. The Duchess who once embodied protection was called witch and a demon. Her own people.. The ones she ruled with gentleness.. Began to look at her as if she were the curse itself. When unrest grew violent, Ebony fled Night for the first time in her life. She left behind her title, her home, and the only world she had ever known. In Valiant, she concealed her identity and posed as a Candlebearer, a quiet servant of light in a land that did not know her name.
Having never stepped beyond her duchy’s borders before, she is confronted with truths no history book recorded. Cruelties ignored, injustices normalized, suffering rationalized in the name of order. And for someone who cannot stay silent in the face of wrong, anonymity is both shield and torment.

EBONY : [Scared, desperate.] "No. [Voice trembling.] I didn’t die. I was supposed to. The clock struck- An arrow flew and it should’ve ended it- I should’ve but.. But I’m still here. [Pause.] ..My people called me cursed. A demon. They tried to kill me. [Her voice cracks.] If Duchess Valiant finds out.. If any of them find out.. They’ll finish what the prophecy couldn’t."
EBONY : [Angry.] “That is not Sajan’s promise. You are idiotic to think I would so much as nod at someone who thinks they should have the ability to take away my expression.”
EBONY : [Comforting, empathetic.. Almost sad.] “I have yet to hear a word of such from anyone's lips but your own. None of the serfs think of you as Sajan- they acknowledge your differences.. But is that because you are actually oh so cruel and angry- or do you just not want to be as happy as he? You don’t have to be cruel to set yourself apart.. You are not him. From our first encounter I could see such. You’re confident and forward and different. I haven’t met anyone like you.”
