Role Overview:
An Assistant Director (AD) is a key member of a project's crew, responsible for managing the logistics and practical aspects of filming, ensuring the smooth operation of the set, and acting as a liaison between Production Management and the Creative Teams. They bridge the gap between Production Management's creative vision and the practicalities of bringing that vision to life on set.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shoot Schedule: Create & Manage the Daily Shoot Schedule, Break Down the Script, Create Call Sheets, Ensure Cast & Crew Are Where They Needed to Be
- Department Liaison: Communicate with All Departments, Coordinate Between Departments, Ensure All Departments Are On the Same Page
- Problem-Solving: ADs Are Problem-Solvers, Address Any Issues That Arise During Filming, Troubleshoot Problems to Keep Production Moving Forward
- Director's Right-Hand: Keep Director Informed of Progress, Assist with Their Creative Vision
- Supervising & Managing: Depending on the Production Size, There May Be Multiple ADs, Each with Specific Responsibilities
- Detailed Script Breakdown: Analyze Scripts, Identify Necessary Elements for Each Scene [ie. Props, Locations, Special FXs]
